Wikipedia backlinks

Almost impossible! You have to be a famous person or have individual product which is so important to write about it in encyklopedia... I tried to have an article, cheat that I'm a very important blogger - and no way Real big bloggers and important writers are still not visible in wikipedia..

You can add material to existing Wikipedia pages, and put a reference (with link) at the bottom of the page. This will do you absolutely zero good in terms of Seo though, as Wikipedia went nofollow quite awhile ago. Linking to a Wikipedia page would do you better than getting a link from there, co-citation wise.

Getting links from Wikipedia is a great source of traffic and even links at the bottom of the page in 'related links' sections generally do well. As mentioned previously the reason to get links on Wikipedia is not for SEO purposes but for traffic.

Anyone can edit a page and include a link, i've done it numerous times, but if it looks like you're a spammer you can be sure your edit or link will be undone swiftly.

It is hard to get listed on wikipedia. Standards at wikipedia are very high. You can try to submit a good post with details or edit old posts with your desired links. Wikipedia has many contributors who are giving a lot of good stuff so high standards are required for getting your post on wikipedia.

Wiki links are not a good juice. Just for Tier 2..you can use wiki backlinks..Not to money site..

the key is to make a couple of harmless edits to other pages, so establish yourself as a reliable editor. then wait a few days and put in the real link that you want, followed by a few other dummy links from high DA sites

Personally I found it really difficult to get links from Wiki and as far I know wiki links are not SEO purpose. You can use your link at the bottom of your article as a reference link. If you are trying improve your SEO ranking than I suggest you to try on Gov. and Edu link.

Wikipedia backlinks have no value because they are nofollow backlinks. I've built and maintained a Wikipedia backlink for a long time on a previous site of mine that I didn't monetise and I was getting several direct visitors from it every single day. But it didn't increase my rankings one bit.

Unless you want direct traffic, don't bother trying to get a Wikipedia link because you'll be disappointed. Nofollow links don't pass link juice and ranking power.

wikipedia + nofollow x no rankings - waste of time = no money

this is the correct formula.

Wikipedia links are only useful to diversify your link profile. Nothing Else!

Don't even bother trying to get wikipedia backlinks.

It will only make you waste time trying to get one!

Before I make my point I just want to introduce myself - I am a wikipedia editor for over 5 yrs now. I have over 40k in edits. I have posted numerous amounts of links (different locations) and pages and they have been active for years. I have access to editor tools that provide metrics on wikipedia pages as well. After reading this thread I feel compelled to explain my knowledge & experience with wikipedia, because some people have NO IDEA WTF THEIR TALKING ABOUT! I have been doing SEO for the past 3 years so I have a good handle about that matter as well.

I will try to keep this as short and straight to the point as possible.

A. Why are wikipedia links so hard to get?
They are not hard to get if you are a reputable editor :-). Most people can't get a link up for more than a couple of days, because they use black hat methods. Also moderators are watching everything and trust me they have TOOLS and yrs of experience so they know what is up.

B. Why get a wikipedia backlink?

#1 Get targeted traffic to your site.

Proof: I have multiple Google analytics reports from sites I have links to that get from 7 - 25 clicks a DAY with low bounce rates.

#2 Get free backlinks. This is not know to many, but wikipedia is always getting scraped and posted on other sites. If you have a link on a wikipedia page, then the chances that your link will get scraped and posted on another domain are really high.

Proof: Unfortunately I can't post links otherwise I would have posted live proof. All you have to do is go to a wikipedia page (any URL). Copy one of the reference links on the bottom - add quotation around it - then google it. Check the results and you will find that the link is on many other domains as well. BOOM!!!

#3 Boost your SEO rank. People keep saying - its a no follow link. So the **** wat? Do you think Google wants to only see do follow links - do you think that looks natural?. Anyway, to the point. It is a no follow link, but its the BEST fukin no follow link or actual link you can get. Here are the current stats. Numbers speak for themselves.

+ Domain Authority (DA) = 100
+ Google PR (keep in mind that hasnt been updated for a while) = 9
+ Ahrefs domain rank = 91
+ Alexa Rank = 7

You will actually see an increase in rank within 5 - 6 weeks of posting the link. I have been tracking this for a while and that is what I found.

C. How can you create wikipedia links that stay active for a while?
Don't use black hat methods. Join the club and become an editor. Earn your way up the ranks.

Well, of course getting a wikipedia link is something that everyone wants but its not that much easy as it looks for every line you write over there needs to have a citation from a trusted source then only something could work out, and what some companies do inorder to make themselves available over Wikipedia is they pay news and other authorities to write about them in over their newspaper or .... so, you can also do that other than that you need to first make a standout i.e. try differentiating yourself from others get as much references as you could.

No one really knows what counts and what doesn't. If you are not adding value to wikipedia, you won't get anything out of it. Your links will be removed by the editing staff at some point of time. So, if you want to add something to wiki and gain a link back, ensure whatever you are adding/editing adds real value to the page.

I agree with your post. The guys from google SAY that a backlink from wikipedia will not benefit SEO.

However, my own experience from practice has shown me tremendous boost in domain authority after getting backlinks from the wikipedia. Also my rankings seemed to improve after getting those links.

For me what they told is a myth. For me it always gave a mysterious benefit. I think they might try to fool SEOs with that statement. Probably they want SEOs to stay away from such a valuable ressource like wikipedia.

Just ask anyone who owns backlinks from wikipedia. I think most of them will tell you that this links give value, no matter what people tell in theory.

I swear I wrote a post on another thread about Wikipedia earlier today, but it seems to have gone AWOL...

Anyway, the crux of what I wrote was this: local inter-connectivity (an old patent) tells how Google might re-rank results within the top 100 (for example) based on how many times those 100 pages cite each other. The citation is most commonly a link and I can see no reason why a nofollow tag would prevent it from being counted as a citation.

And because Wikipedia ranks so well for so many terms, it forms a part of the "local group" of 100 results on many occasions and thus a link from the ranking Wikipedia page will give a direct impact on the re-ranking of the results. Like I said, it's an old patent, but one that makes quite a lot of sense so I wouldn't imagine that it's been completely done away with.

That's my 2 cents on the matter anyway.

You should be getting Wiki links... lots of them.

Because if you're getting wiki links, you're creating a resource worth linking too... which is ESSENTIAL.

If you can wrote a 5000 word article you'll get lots of links.

SEO is not unlike writing a university disertation.

Put those resources that get links from wiki into Ahrefs.com, and you'll see they get backlinks from lots of other authoritive domains.

So although wiki links are no follow, they're a good yard stick to show you're on the right track with your content creation process.

P.S.: My "secret method" works even for bulk demands. Sure getting single links is way easier.

Wikipedia brings me about 18 to 30+ of free unique visitors per day. I've had links on Wiki since 2008 still going strong.

I link out from my website to Wikipedia. I am a firm believer in the Google hill-topper concept; i.e., be the top site that links out to the most relevant content in your particular niche.

Look for Wiki's that have dead links or 'citation needed', then create authoritative page on your site that could be used, including the information needed that matches the content on the wiki. You should be able to list your site as the reference link there on that wiki page then.

It really is tricky to get listed upon Wikipedia. Criteria on Wikipedia are higher. You can test to help submit a fantastic post with information or even change outdated content with your sought after hyperlinks. Wikipedia has quite a few contributing factors who definitely are presenting a lot of nutrients thus higher criteria are expected getting your post upon Wikipedia.

Actually I have no idea on how important wikipedia links are. Since Google tries to be as much real as possible, either wikipedia link be nofollow, it may provide value I would say. I have added some of my links in wikipedia, my being a football blog, I got some traffic from those but I am not sure how much they mean on SEO.

The biggest problem are the scraper sites that scrape Wikipedia and then shove your link on those sites.

My site was lucky enough to get linked to a few times on Wikipedia naturally. Over the years thousands of scrapers and citation sites were built and probably was behind my sites rankings plummeting.

I'd be careful with a wiki link but thats because of my experience.

i heared about it, wiki gives a good backlinks as well as traffic.but i never used wiki.
