99% of all search traffic from Google (how is this possible?)

This seems very strange to me: nearly 99% of ALL my organic search traffic is coming from Google, with barely 1% coming from all other search engines combined. It's been this way for over a year, and I'm now trying to figure out what's going on.

Now I know Google is the runaway market share leader, but numbers so one-sided seem really fishy to me. And yes, Analytics is a Google product, but I can't imagine they'd lie outright about where search traffic is coming from.

Any ideas? Are these types of #'s typical? I just can't imagine how it's possible that it's THAT lopsided.SERPs, yet only 1 or two from all other search engines!??

    Hi,

    Click on "Organic" and find out from where. It's not fishy if most of your clicks are coming from keywords you are ranking for. Also, if you are getting traffic from Google thats good and don't be worried about other sources. Traffic is Traffic as long as it converts and is legit.

    Here something you can do...

    Connect your GWT to Your GA account. There is an option in GWT which will allow you to configure. Once this has been done. Under Acquisition>Search Engine Optimization, you'll have "3" options:

    You can find out queries, landing page and geographical location. I'm telling you to do this because organic traffic is awesome traffic but find out how and where it's coming from. Is it coming from certain keywords...going to certain landing pages, etc.

    If you are getting scrappy traffic then its a problem. Once you have this information I would love to hear about the report.

    You're comparing completely different SE algos against each other. Each search engine ranks pages very differently. Whatever way you are optimizing your website, seems to be heavily suited to the Google algo comapared to other algos.

    It's that simple. Nothing to do with market share.

    Personally I love Google traffic, it seems to be where 79%-85% of the worlds population is going and growing. It can only be good for business!

    Google is a famous search engine and it is good to have organic traffic from google. Your site may be having keywords which are searched more on google with a lot of stuff so other search engines are not showing more results. More traffic from google is a good thing.

          OP bottom line is - you are leaving traffic/money on the table because the other search engines are not that hard to rank for so optimally your percentage of Google traffic should not be that high.

            Yes, that's my sense too...that there *is* something wrong if Google is 99% of my organic search traffic...I just have no idea why that is. Some of the other replies ITT (though they seem to have been written by 13-year olds) haven't really said anything other than "derrrrrrr, google is big, everyone else small".

            So what would you recommend as the next step in diagnosing just what's wrong on the Yahoo/Bing/other search engine side?

              Do you even rank on any other SERPs besides Google? Just because you have 3 traffic on another SERP doesn't mean you rank for anything.

              So far all you've posted is: something's wrong with Google [shocking].

              Maybe post some info. that actually matters & you won't get so many random answers. This is SEO not mind reading 101.

                Yes, the site ranks in Yahoo / Bing when I type in relatively targeted keywords (even ones that don't contain my website's URL, but which I know are relatively well-targeted to the content on our pages.)

                So in short: YES, I rank in non-Google SERPs...so it's not a matter of not being indexed anywhere else. Which is what makes it peculiar that 99% of organic traffic comes from Google, and less than 1% comes from other search engines, even though my site IS indexed there.

    likely because most of the advise you get is suited to rank on google.. most people see what you see.. also google is the biggest search engine.

    Find out where you rank in Bing and Yahoo for the same keywords you rank high in Google for. If you don't have any decent rankings in B/Y, that would explain the discrepancy in traffic from Google relative to traffic from B/Y.

    It is just because you stop promoting your website. Because you stopped, Google drives traffic to your website through search for keyword you rank for.

    I have most of my website came from search engine as well; but it is not 99%! Like @AskAnAffiliate suggested, deep into the data to figure out how things are like that. It is somehow strange because the ranking signal would drive your traffic (like social media, backlinks, directories, etc..)

    That's organic search. You need check the total traffics.
    P.S, if 99% of traffics all from Google search, the website will be soon penalized by Google, because Google thinks you are using SEO to get traffics.
    Google don't like website just using SEO to get traffics because that obviously the website is not popular and generating spams.

    Actually It is very impressive, it proves that you are doing good seo work on your website. nothing is fishy here, you are getting search traffic because you are ranking on the top for important keywords. use webmaster tool and Google analytic to find keywords and also run keyword ranking report for your targeted keywords.
