My Server IP effect my SEO?

I just bought a dedicated server from 1&1. The sales guy told me I would have a UK ip address but when I got the server it is actually in Germany.

I target just the UK serps, which is fine when im using a .co.uk domain but i'm worried now that when I use a .com domain and use whoisguard to hide address information that I will be ranking in german searches and not the UK search.

Am I wrong to think this or should I ask for a refund now?

follow your gut, get what you want, i would opt for the uk ip for sure, it all adds to the whole theme package, youd be constantly wondering, is it that shitty german ip thats causing my site dropping out of the serps, i opt for uk ips for uk clients and uk domains, thats just my take on things

Yes, I see your point. It is a shame because it is an umbeliveable deal they are doing and I can't get the same deal anywhere else even close to the price.

In all honesty, I wouldn't really worry about it. It's not going to have a dramatic difference either way. If the page is in English, and you have a .co.uk extension, the domain will mainly rank in UK SE's, however, you'll need to concentrate on getting links from .co.uk sites if you want to stand a good chance of getting to the top of the UK Search engines, otherwise, you'll find yourself over at the .com, but if you get enough links from all soources, it wont really matter.

I've got sites that are .com, with US servers, and I rank at the top of ireland search engine, uk, and europe, and all my translated pages are at the top of their respective native languages

Your probably right. If i log into google webmaster tools and set the location to UK it should hopefully be ok. I wonder about msn and yahoo though.

    Hi GuerrillaIM
Many days ago I faced such a problem. But now I am totally free from this problem. As you can't change your server now so you can take help of software to change your IP when working.
The name of the software is Hide My IP 2008. I think you can get update version of it's. To purchase it you have to spend only $30. I think in front your problem it's not a big amount.
So, use it, you will get relief from your problem.
