Appearing High In Google Maps SERPs

Our HQ address is in Colwick, which is miles away from the centre of Nottingham (in Google's eyes).

We send 250,000 parcels a month, and don't appear on Google Maps results for the term 'parcel courier nottingham' and similar, whereas a 'man and a van' type courier ranks number one!

How do we rank higher on Google Maps? Should I create a fake address that is in the centre of Nottingham?

    Creating a fake address is bad.

    I'm Nottingham based, and in my google business listing, I ticked the box saying I travel to the clients premises (now I cover Wolverhampton, Derby, Nottingham and Northampton... and all in between).

    Share your website, check the seo on it - what have you got mentioned about Nottingham in it? Might need more general SEO too.

    You need to use a "real" address where you can receive mail (thats how google will verify that you are at that location). But yes, you have the right idea.

      An actual P.O. box (if you have those) located central makes more sense than a 'fake' address for a legitimate, established business.

      Maps impressions are usually powered by reviews, and I think thats where you should look for a long term solution....though I dont know the parcel niche's relationship with review/maps.

      "man with a van has several listings at google maps, using different names.

      If you are established, I would recommend a local seo expert...not me or someone I know...just get a good local seo expert...they exist, and I'm very suprised there isn't a 'local warrior' section here.

      The result are displayed different than I usually see in America, so I would get an English local seo pro.

      There is (a lot of) stuff going on behind the curtains, methinks...if you are making money, dont fk around, pony up.

    Dont do any thing fake. Google doesnot like that.
    What you need to do is !
    Try to get more number of reviews from your own customers .
    Atleast ask some of your Clients to write reviews about your Company in Google Maps ( to your Business Page) your rank will be increased automatically.

    Well agreed with the review suggestion as my company we did a promotion where our customer were to review on Google Map we give them free of charge delivery for once. You may come up with something with the mechanics.

    And yes you need register on Official business listing. Nobody doesn't do that nowadays.

    But just curious, I wonder what else would good use for Ranking in future? As this is going to be spam by everyone pretty soon. Especially in my country here in Singapore.

      offering propmotions for reviews isn't recommended, in gereral.

      Give service that's so awsome they have to review you is best.
      Link to yelp/google maps, info on reciept or lading bill, so they know where to thanks you.

      Deserve reviews as a business model.

      Anything else is trying to trick google, which will end up being a short term solution.

    Any address only appeared in Google when any one creates its by following local business else not so please be careful...

    I totally agree with all of you here. Just be honest to yourself, especially when it comes to your business' local address. If you are giving a fake address, it will definitely ruin the reputation of yourself and your business. Again, just try to be honest to yourself and to others. Ok?
