Need backlinks for new site with content

I recently purchased a site with around 100 pages but no links pointing to it.
Normally, the first thing I would do is start with article marketing for backlinks and maybe a few blog comments a day. Then after some time maybe go to the trouble of listing it in directories and other web properties.

But I am wondering if you guys have something different for me to try before I get into my "old" tricks. What are some more effective 'first' backlinks?

I'm looking at link building services and want to buy the service rather than put my own time to link building. I need a few good ideas with how to approach a new site. It's been some time since I did anything with a site this green. So I'm really curious what good 'starter' services might be for a site with lots of content but virtually no backlinks?

      Buying backlink is good , but you most beware of Google penalty for your site. I will advice you to started generating quality links to your site, which will be in form of traffic that will convert to sales for you..

        I am certainly no authority figure but.......

        Write quality content & promote the website (FB, Adwords, and a thousand other ways.)

        Back-link strategies (buying backlinks, private blog networks, etc) will backfire in the long run.

        I regret every back-link scheme I tried and every back-link I ever paid for (fiver gigs, expensive private networks, you name it!).

        I can't believe the time & money that was wasted on back-linking when it could have been used for quality content.

    Yes - Rob is right.

    Be VERY careful if you plan to buy links, it's one of the easiest ways to get your site penalised by Google.

    Don't be in a hurry, just leverage your content and get the word out - if it's worth visiting then people will share it and your traffic will build.

    If you try and cut corners and buy your way to rankings you may end up with a site that you can't get ranked.

    Are those 100 pages quality content, or is it just "unworked" PLR the seller packed the site with? If it is, you need to start from scratch and provide some good, fresh content relative to the subject matter of the site.

    Also, don't put all your eggs in one basket and make yourself 100% reliant upon Google for your traffic, if you do, you will constantly be one algorithm update away from oblivion.
