Does that reduce value of the link pointing at you?

For example if you have crappy links pointing to a page on your site, could changing the pages url possibly help? (If a page gets negative seod for example or has old directories linking to it)

Thanks

Well think about it like this. If you have a dofollow link which links to a page on your website which doesn't exist then Google bot isn't going to reach your site is it? But if it goes to a 404 page then that's a different story. However, you've got to remember that historical indexes exist (think Majestic.com) and it really it best practice is have proper 404 pages. The better way is to Disavow use GWT...if you are from the camp who believes that works.

Disavow tool is questionable. A lot of people don't trust it. I'd hope it actually works considering negative SEO is around. I do use the disavow tool tho.
