What does it mean when google indexes my sites like this?

I built a couple of sites last week for long tail keywords. Those home page ranked on the 1st page of google for the keyword. That was good, but then my site completely dropped out of the SERPS - or at least off the first 25 pages or so.

Here is my problem. Of those sites where my main page indexed, now when I check my site: I get a few of the category and product pages, but my index is not listed. I have pages, posts, and categories - but no home page.
I havent built any links other than social bookmarks.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Is this a symptom of the sandbox - ehere the index page doesnt show up after it once did?

    Hi Charles,

I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's probably just a data refresh. If you want to be sure, have the site verified in Google's Webmaster Tools and check the diagnostics page. They will list any problems they encounter with your site.

The initial ranking and then drop is what should be expected from the temporary effect of the freshness factor boost. That is normal and nothing to worry about.

Just go out and promote traffic by building backlinks from relevant pages and you will gradually climb in rankings.

  • I went and checked the webmaster sites. Over by the crawl stats they just had dashes, and the sitemap said 0 indexed.

One of the sites had an error that said the main page didnt exist. It does, and it works. How do I fix this with in Webmaster tools?

Charles, it's pretty common new sites getting hammered to page nowhere. Just do your thing and don't stress about that. He'll recover.

  • I'm OK with the site getting hammered. I am more concerned about the site main index page missing out of the SERPS now. Instead, it is showing the category page as the main page.

Don't worry about this as you need to get some quality backlinks for your website to get your site ranked again.
