    Alexa is a useless metric.

It is based on the number of visitors to a website who have the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser.

    Totally worthless.

Alexa rank give a view about a site visitors. But actually it is unable to give you real quantity of visitors. It is based on alexa toolbar installed traffic.

I wouldn't say totally worthless. It does give some indication if a website is getting regular traffic or not...

Not really though because it is making estimates based on who has the Alexa toolbar installed. The only people I know of that have that stupid toolbar installed are people that accidentally installed some other stupid thing that put the toolbar into their browser and they have no idea how to get rid of it.

some of my numbers with Alexa Rank corresponding to avg. UV/day

          Site A: Alexa Rank: 300,000+ UV/day: 800+

          Site B: Alexa Rank: 500,000+ UV/day: 1100+

          Site C: Alexa Rank: 12,000,000+ UV/day: 200+

          Site D: Alexa Rank: - (N/A) UV/day: 5+

          Site E Alexa Rank: - (N/A) UV/day 10+

I think the lower the rank the more accurate Alexa gets but the data it aggregates has some pattern to it it seems regardless. You get low traffic you aren't even on the board. You move people in the thousands each month you start getting ranked lower and lower.

MikeFriedman is 100% accurate with this. Alexa Rankings have no factors in SEO or internet marketing. You can have a website doing great in Alexa's eyes and do horrible with SEO.

Neither Alexa ranking is based on the number of ranking nor it is capable for the traffic purpose. All it has to do is world ranking of a website.

Alexa is supposed to estimate the number of visitors to a site and ascribe a rank to them based on that but it sucks at it. Alexa rankings are unreliable and should be ignored for the most part.

In my view Alexa traffic rank is based on the data generated by this two sources. The change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from 3 Months ago.

Alexa is all about traffic, if you have good backlinks, you will rank on different search engine and traffic will flow automatically.
