Do you think Google trusts certain business directories more because of reputation and thier dealings with then, etc.?

    As other have said, no partnership exists between Google and those sites. Google trusts them because of their reputation and authority, which is why they rank highly in the results.

    Google has a habit of absorbing other companies that could be of use to their own users, rather than simply partnering with those sites. And, that's what happened with sites such as Youtube, which used to be independent from Google. If a site is good enough, then it's likely to become part of not partner with Google.
