Anyone know why Google would show an old meta description?

It likely got updated over a month or two ago. Could it have to do with Shopify hosting or does that sometimes happen with results?

Thanks

Confirm it's not a DMOZ description by searching for the exact "meta description in speech marks" with this Google search:

    site:dmoz.org "Exact Meta Description"

If your site isn't in the DMOZ directory and you've set a newer meta description recently all you can do is be patient.

Also check you don't have duplicate meta tags, if you are a WordPress user and don't know what you are doing with the SEO plugins can happen. View code source in Firefox or Google Chrome browsers and manually check what's in your code.

Check the date Google cached your page (there's normally an option to do that)

Google sometimes takes longer than we'd like to change things.

And sometimes has a mind of its own when it comes to results, changing meta descriptions when it thinks it knows better than you for a particular search query.

If it is a Dmoz description you should be able to get rid of that by using a noodp tag in your code.

And concentrate on things you can affect such as more content on your site, more links, etc.

Some time it happens. If Google finds old description more relevant than the new description with the content of page, it uses old one instead of new one. If old one achieving more CTR than Google also uses the best performer.

Check whether your website having more than one meta description tags. Also you can check the last crawl rate, and if something blocking google bot from crawling your website. nce everything is ready, use crawl and render option in webmaster tools, it will fix this issue.
