Hello,

I want to get some advice on how to best adjust my blog to accomodate more topics but in the process i dont want to break any inbound links. (Its a WordPress based blog). Right now the main topic is "Internet Marketing" but i also want to accommodate web design and web development. I am thinking on creating either one or two subdomains to accompdate these two new topics and the main domain will serve as a portal where the visitor can choose where to go either internet marketing or web design/development.

What do you think of that structure? Can i get some ideas please. Thanks. I am most worried about not breaking any inbound links and search engine ranking.

Sub domains will be seen as individual websites in the eyes of G... Sure you can get some link juice flowing from the main domain but if you're going to do it from a SEO point of view then I would create additional categories and expand out.. you have more to gain... That way your domain will get more indexed pages and combined with a silo approach you can really maximize your on-page seo....that way you will build an authority site in the eyes of G... In addition you subjects are also broadly speaking in the same niche... I would only go for a sub domain if it was radically different e.g weight loss, cars, etc...

There really is nothing to worry about breaking inbound links... your pages will always have unique urls... also I recommend the use of XENU - a free awesome tool which can keep you on top of that wrt broken links etc...

As its wordpress I would just go ahead and create new posting categories and apply the new categories to the main menu as well as site maps if you use them... and just carry on with positing new articles with the correct categories assigned....

Hope that helps and best of luck with your future endeavour!

Hey thanks for taking the time to respond. I think that I'll go with what you suggested instead of creating a sub-domain. There are still a few things that bother me but I'll see how to fix those.

This ks the structure I recommend:

Add "web design/development" as an option on your homepage, then link it to a new category entitled "Web Design and Development" or any relevant title you want to use.

It's better to do it this way than to create a new subdomain. A category in a directory on the root domain will benefit more from the root domain's link juice and age than a subdomain.
