Using expired domains for SEO

I am currently running a mens shoes affiliate website. I was thinking to get 5-10 expired domains with decent authority (niche related) and redirect them to my site. I did some research and someone said that this is against Google rules and you have to be careful not to be caught. Is that the case? I don't want to get in trouble, I built some authority already I don't want to mess this up.

    Hi,

What you are doing is pretty much created a PBN which is a private blog network. We have been discussing this topic enormously for the past couple of weeks. If you do a quick search for "PBN" or "private blog network" you will be able to find information on this topic.

    However,

    To answer your question.

I consider it GREY-HAT which is in between allowed and not because there are many ways you can do this and still provide people substance. When I create networks I normally add unique content which is lengthy and have not over linked. Maybe linking 1/4 content to my main website. I make each content is long and covers various topics. I write content manually and go in-depth. The point is it would be EXTRA wrong if you just bulk link built and went completely opposite of Google rules. However, there is nothing wrong with having multiple websites even based on the same niche as long as you provide substance.

    Now,

My websites are built keeping longevity in mind so I focus on whats good for search engines and NOT only for me. It's more lengthy but your safe.

With the second or third expired domain redirecting your site will end up all the business. It was working and not now. With 10-15 expired domains you are planning you can build your own PBN and it is a bit of a story....

If I were you, I prefer to create a site that related to my money site from these expired domains. 301 redirects will not pass all the link juices, almost all will vanish in the long run.

The advantage of building a site from expired domains in terms of SEO is that you will get a real quality link from related, authority, and age domain website.

In the future you can build these sites to become bigger sites.

If you are afraid of penalties, don't redirect the domains to your site. A safer way to use them is building a blog network with them and linking to your site from the network. Although this can also get your site penalised, if done properly, the risk is low.

Technically speaking, using expired domains is black hat, and if google connects the dot, you're in trouble.

HOWEVER, as someone pointed out above - simply registering an expired domain from relevant niche, churning out original content on it (lets say 1 article a week), and linking once in a while to your money site - though this is grey hat, its techincally okay.

What will be the white hot then? Guest blogging? If the definition of white hat is what google said "Natural link" meaning all link building that we are doing is black hat.

        Quoted for truth.
Any link you set out to build is against Google's tos.

I would build the sites out and link a few very relevant articles to your affiliate site. Make those sites authorities in your niche and try not to leave footprints.

I don't know the color the hat but to me it is fine. Google may
    disagree.

A good plan when linking to your money site is NOT to link to the
Home page. Just link to a couple of other pages.

    Be Well
    Don

Also, have privacy protection on each site and, if possible have a
least several hosting companies. Make sure that they money site
has hosting that none of the others site have.

And then silo all the pages so that the link juice flows thru the
    entire money site.

I would suggest you not to go against any of the google rules or else their might be possibilities that you get penalized. And to get back from that is very tough.

If I were you, I won't do it. This SEO strategy worked a few months (or even years!) ago. Nowadays it's not even sure if you write QUALITY, UNIQUE and LONG articles...

I prefer building out the expired domains into unique sites, and renting links on those sites for multiple clients in the same niche. This keeps costs low and is more natural than 10-15 domains redirecting to one page.

If you're interested in the redirect method, check out some of the content here on the Blackhat Underground forum, which is specifically discussing this method.

Hello, I have used it extensively:

Giving a new website/domain more than 5,000 aged backlinks, plus dozens of wikipedia.org article backlinks all in one day.

It is working very well since over 2,5 years for me, till now. Have multiple test cases.

This was the biggest kick start out of them. Earned kind of extreme domain authority and good rankings fast and durable without any additional offsite activities.

Another great advantage: With this technique you have the complete control over your backlinks. If in any future google would tell you, that they are now considered bad, you could simply flip the switch in only one minute in time, by cutting the redirects!

If you found this helpful, I appreciate a qucik "thanks"

    Hey Dr Matt,

I did not know the sites you mentioned, thanks. Maybe they can be a "good to know" addon

Also cool to see that this conversation has re-activated you after you have being a quite silent member for many years!

    Thanks & Cheers!

Thanks NSA, it is good to know PBN is still safe if used properly.
I have some PR3 and PR4 websites that I need to build some clean
PR1 to PR6 backlinks to these sites as the links are falling off because
of no activity, but they still have some links and pagerank
What is some of the best softwares that can automate link building on a "drip" basis?
Fast is not that important, just done right with solid relevent links that should last. I have some softwares that can find the sites, but do not post.
Can Scrapebox accomplish this? What are some others that are highly effective building natural looking link patterns and keeps Google happy? thanks mojjo

GSA Search Engine Ranker would probably be your best bet for building those types of links. You can set it up to drip feed and use articles to make contextual links. You have to be careful with it as it can run thousands of links before you know it.

However, it does have a fairly big learning curve if you want to use it correctly. You will also have other costs involved such as proxies, lists, and various other things.

You may go for this if you are an experienced SEO - otherwise better hire some consultant to do it with due care!
