    Hi,

From what I know it doesn't in terms of SEO because you are linking to them and its not the other way around. If you have an authority website then links from your website will only benefit those that are being linked.

    However,

if you are linking to valuable websites you can build a reputation for providing awesome resources but in terms of SEO....Answer is NO!

I am not linking to them , those authority sites leave their links on my site ... they are linking to me.. you got my question wrong ... I know that LINKING to authority sites with do-follow links give me benefits for SEO .. What if the authority sites link to me by leaving their links on my site ?

    Hi,

You mean they are leaving a link to your website from their websites right? If that is the case and they are authority websites and relevant....it can be very valuable. Google loves high authority well preserved websites which are relevant.

AskAnAffiliate, I am just as confused as you are.

The best I could tell, your first post answered his question.

Your question isn't very clear. The best I could tell, he answered your question in his first reply.

However, you replied saying "I am not linking to them". Well, if they are leaving links to their site on your site, then you ARE linking to them.

LET me explain this again ... People come to advertise on my website , when they do , they add a link to their website (ON MY WEBSITE). It can't get any clearer than that ... so from leaving their website address link on my website , do I get any SEO benefit ? Thanks

Again, post #2 answers your question.

And also, again, you are linking to them so your earlier statement of "I am not linking to them" simply made your already confusing post even worse.

NO but as others have said previous to this post your question was completely confusing because linking TO your site is not how you say leaving a link ON your site

Website owners generally have control of who can put links onto their sites. Unless you have a big site I highly doubt CNN is going onto your website to leave a link back to them.

Some sites like smaller one might do that to try to get link juice but even then generally the webmaster can control who is putting links on their site.

Thanks for putting up with this. He has rephrased the question complete wrong. "Electrical" I thank you for having the patience.

    Now....

Again, either you link to them or they to you. If your the one link to them NO benefit however if they are linking to you than there can be but depending on their value. SIMPLE!

Well that couldn't be a more confusing way to ask the question.

Let's ignore who added the link, Google doesn't give a toss if you added it or someone added it via a comment or hacked your website and added links.

Links TO your website do pass link benefit (PR) to your webpage/website.
Links TO your website do pass authority to your webpage/website.
Links TO your website do pass anchor text benefit to your webpage.

The above are pretty obvious benefits of gaining backlinks to a website. Very few people will argue the above isn't true. Higher the quality (higher the authority as many call it) of the site, more valuable the links.

Links FROM your website do not pass any link benefit (PR) to your webpage/website.
Links FROM your website do not pass any authority to your webpage/website.
Links FROM your website does pass anchor text benefit to your webpage.

No one who understands PR will disagree with point one.

On point two quite a number of webmasters believe the opposite is true, however I think they are mistaken because of point three. When you add a link from a webpage to any other webpage with relevant keyword rich anchor text, the anchor text benefits your webpage as well. Problem is it benefits the site you are linking to much more, you are helping a competitor for the same gain you can get another way.

If you have a webpage you want ranked for a SERP like "Google Rocks" if you link to other webpages and use the words Google and Rocks as the anchor text it will help your webpage rank higher for those words. This is basic SEO 101, anchor text helps both the webpage it is on and the webpage the link points to (very easy to test SEO wise).

The interesting question is, does it matter where the link points to? It's difficult to test conclusively, but looks like the answer is either no or it doesn't matter much (obviously you don't want to link to bad sites).

I work on the assumption when targeting a SERP link to as many related webpages on your own site as possible using keyword rich anchor text (go for derivative phrases as well as direct matches) and only link out to other domains if it makes sense.

Don't as a matter of course find a relevant webpage on Wikipedia to link to, yes the anchor text of the link (assuming you use keyword rich anchor text) will help, BUT you are sending much more valuable link benefit to Wikipedia for the same gain you can get from linking to an internal webpage with the same anchor text.
