For example - if you sell office chairs and make a post - top 5 office chairs for the workplace or something similar linking to products on your site.

Anyone know how posts like these can do in the serps? If Google demotes promotional even if useful content or they don't even view it like that?

Thanks

You would know the answer by doing a Google search.

I'll make it easy, yes they'll rank.

Thanks. Then that should be a fair long tail keyword/promotioal strategy - best of posts, etc. Cheers

Sure it's fair/legit, tons of sites use that strategy, especially around the holidays from recipes to cars & everything in between...

The 1..30 is a number range for the search query, it's telling Google to return any results that include a number between 1 & 30. Those numbers could be any numbers you want.

Also, keywords like best can be swapped out with similar keywords, example:
      • top camping tent
      • best camping tent
      • good camping tent
      • great camping tent

This Windows app I made a couple of years ago can help flush out similar keywords. The download is attached to the bottom of the OP.

IMO, "Top 5 Office Chairs" is still a little bit generic for me.
Yes, they rank but I'm sure there are already a plenty more posts on the said title/topic.
