Same thing that has been working for years: unique content and quality/relevant backlinks with some social signals (not that they help but they won't hurt your site, so why not?).

Start by focusing on your affiliate site content, make sure it's as good as possible. Google has a real problem with thin affiliate sites, that is sites which are cookie cutter style, lots of copy/paste from other sites and very little original content. The way to get into Google's good graces is by adding value to your affiliate site with indepth tutorials, real customer testimonials/reviews (not just sales descriptions for products copied from other sites) uniquely written product descriptions that appear nowhere else, as well as any personal insights you have for each product.

Ranking affiliate sites is fairly easy thing, if your content is actually link/share worthy. I've been doing this since 2009 and all of my sites still rank for really competitive keywords (even after being attacked by negative SEO).

1) Forget all the spam links that do more harm than good - social bookmarks, blog comments, blank web2.0s, link packages, someone elses "PBN", profile links etc. Those are signs of a very weak link profile.

3) How to get those? Well, one way is to do email outreaching and share your awesome content with other webmasters. There are tons of guides and instructions how to get legit links using different email scripts, strategies, methods etc. Believe me, you'll never run out of ideas to get more links.

4) Have much money? Go and buy them. Just contact with webmaster in your niche and tell them that you'd like to advertise your website on their site/blog and you are willing to pay X dollars. It works like charm.

If you have even more money, you can contact with writers/editors behind Mashable, Wired, TechCrunch, Forbes etc and offer them money. They will most likely cost a bit more than a regular link at X site, but they can pump up your site authority pretty rapidly.

5) Invest your money in three things = site design, site content, links. But not for $300 web designers from Singapur or content writers from iWriters or linkbuilders from Odesk = those are pretty much gibberish. You'll have to find out the best...
