LOL.. Just because the keyword tool is named Long Tail Pro, doesn't exactly means it spits out long tail keywords at will. It's just another keyword tool that pulls it's data from Google's Keyword Planner.

Personally, this is one of the simpler methods I use to find Long Tail keywords..

1. Choose a keyword you want to target.
2. Head over to Ubersuggest.org
3. Add your keyword in the space provided, solve the captcha and hit 'Suggest '

Ubersuggest extracts its data from Google's auto suggest i.e when you type something into Google, it provides a list of related keywords in the drop down menu, those results are compiled by ubersuggest into one single place for your convenience.

Taking it a step further, you can take a long tail keyword that ubersuggest suggested, and put it back into ubersuggest and get an ever long-er tailed keyword to go after.

There are a few other methods aswell, but this one should keep you busy for now. When you keep on digging for keywords, you generally start getting better at it.

Once you've selected a long tail keyword, just Google it and check if

the keyword is in the title.
the keyword is in the meta description.
the keyword is in the URL

Thanks for this Daniyal. I've not come across ubersuggest yet. It's a good tool, but lacks the search volume data. You can export from ubersuggest (click the grey select all button, the click "get" and it gives you a great text field to copy and paste). Just copy and paste into the google keyword planner tool to get all the search volume.

The only issue is that most of the terms start with your seed keyword. What about long tail keywords with your seed word in the middle? Anyways, still a great tool to put into the toolbox.

Try googling your target keywords, and then you'll see that google will provide you keyword suggestions upon searching. Most of it are long tail keywords that most likely used by people when searching on the web. There, you can find ideas for your long tail keywords.

It is actually a great alternative for keyword planner tool it is just that it doesn't provide how much competition keywords gets.

I like the tools that take keywords from Google's auto suggest. You know that real people are searching for those terms, even if Google doesn't give you data for them in their keyword planner.

The best method is the one described by Chaudhary Daniyal. The only downside to using that method is the extremely low traffic keywords it generates, but that is if you go to deep. Another way similar to the aforementioned one is typing your main keyword into Google, for example, "best vacuum".

Then type an "a" in front of it and you'll get suggestions such as:

"best vacuum at walmart"
"best vacuum at amazon"
"best vacuum and steam cleaner"

Repeat the process for all the letters of the alphabet and you'll have tons of long tail keywords to work with. Gotta stop here

Google Adword Keyword Planner tool is the best tool for researching keywords. You can take idea of long tail keywords from that tool and can check their competition. The long tail keyword with low competition and high average searches will be the best keyword for your business. Moreover, you can also check the competition of the keywords by searching that particular keyword on Google. The total results shown is the overall competition of your keyword.

I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of the competition column in Google Keywords Planner (GKP). It's designed for advertisers, so it means how much competition is there amongst advertisers to find websites that they can advertise on.

If you have a website and are looking to rank, then high competition is good. This means that advertisers are fighting for somewhere to advertise for that keyword and not finding it.

Also, I don't think the total number of pages returned by Google is terribly relevant. You're interested in whether you can get on the first page or two for that term, so all that matters is how powerful those competitors are.

The nicest free competition tool I've found so far is the SEOMOZ toolbar for chrome. It will show you the page authority, domain authority, links, and social shares for each SERP. And did I mention it's free?

I agree with your point that the competition column is meant for advertisers and it shows the competition level for your competitors. But, I think for ranking keyword on SERP it is important to have low or medium competition for the keywords instead of high competition. What I'm saying is that the "Competition" column in Google Keyword Planner doesn't have anything to do with websites at all. It has to do with how many advertisers want to sell ads on that keyword. So higher is better because there's more money flowing on that keyword.

Here is how Google explains that column:

Competition: The number of advertisers that showed on each keyword relative to all keywords across Google. Note that this data is specific to the location and Search Network targeting that you've selected. In the "Competition" column, you can see whether the competition for a keyword is low, medium, or high

Finding long tail keywords with low competition is pretty easy. However, the income ceiling for targeting these keywords is very low. Are you sure you want to only target these type of keywords. Perhaps they're a good starting ground but building a solid keyword list is a better alternative for longevity.

This works..Let's say I want to write a 1500-2000 word article on make money with sub headings. You cna create your own longtail keyword list just by using what Google tells you people are searching for....

I type make money into my Google search box and and they give me choices including make money online which is heading #1, I choose that and repeat where I see make money online fast which is now heading #2, repeat and get make money online fast and easy, heading #3, repeat make money online fast and free, repeat and get make money online fast and free easy no scams which is heading #4.

You get the idea. Google tells me what people are searching for. I write including those words and variations of them in the body. Throw in some graphics with the alt tag "make money online" and I am set for a good post with content people are looking for and Google likes.

Spend the rest of the week or month promoting the post. No need to write 10-20 short posts anymore as Google likes them longer now and most of the competition will not take the time to do that.

The best method I have found for finding ALL long tail keywords for a particular niche or market:

1. Adwords search for your target keyword. Keep only those similar synonyms or very-related results.
2. Put this short list in Scrapebox and run the keyword scraper at depth 4
3. Go back and remove all local and unrelevant keywords

Tada! You've got all long tail keyword variations of your keyword in existence.
