Links from authority sites effect on rankings?

This is kind of a theoretical question but do links from authority sites effect your site overall regardless of what page they link to?

For example, CNN links to a random page on your site - do you think in general that can boost even keywords not related to the page they linked to ?

Thanks

Depends how your site is setup. If it is setup well, any good link to any page will pretty much benefit the whole site.

But no, a link from an authority site like that doesn't magically just benefit an entire website because of where it is coming from.

I don't think it will affect the entire site, but surely the page they link were benefit a lot. If you have a good link silo some other pages may feel the authority of the page that get link from that authority site.

Hear that. So for example if a page has high authority on your site it can help to link to another relevant page on your site in the context of the page for example? That's what it sounds like.
