Google Ranking Sub-Pages Above My Homepage?

I've been working on my new website for about a month now and everything was going well. If someone searched for my website name in google - my homepage would be the first result.

Hovever, few days after submitting my website and XML map to google webmasters my homepage suddenly doesn't even appear in the first 50 or so results. Instead, my sub-pages appear to be among the first results.

Lets say, for example, my website name is "www.dogtraining.com". If I were to search "dog training" in google the first results would be:

www.dogtraining.com/author/username/

www.dogtraining.com/disclaimer/

www.dogtraining.com/about-us

www.dogtraining.com/category/random

etc

How can I make my home page (www.dogtraining.com) to appear as first result instead of my sub-pages and category archives? My website is a news/blog type of website so the content on my homepage is constantly changing. So beside my website title + site description I don't know what else to do regarding on page SEO to help my ranking?

Any suggestions?

It's temporary and it happens when your website is new. By the time you start building links to your homepage, it will start ranking above your internal pages. Heck, you may not even need to build links to your homepage since this kind of issue usually fixes itself over time.
