Video SEO - is it worth it?

There's a whole lot of hoo-haar about Video SEO just lately, but not so much info on how best to work it into a web project. If anyone can shed any light on the questions below, or point to useful resources on this, it may prove useful to me and others starting out.

If I have a site, say for example; mysite.com and it has video ads which compliment the written content, then it's pretty obvious that the video would add some value to any particular page. I guess there's nothing more to add to that assumption. Is there?

Q. If that same video was uploaded to say You Tube, in order for it to be of any value, would it be necessary to write a short description using targeted key phrases, as well as putting those key phrases in the tags?

Q. Would it be of any real benefit to then place that same video in a multitude of other video sites?

Q. Could the same description and tags be used to promote the same vid on other sites, or would it be wise to write a unique blurb for each site that the video was hosted on in order to avoid duplicated content?

Q. Do most of the video sites use the nofollow tag for links?

Q. Is it worth investing in some kind of video posting SW so that uploading to multiple video sites can be done in one hit?

It's my guess that uploading vids to a bunch of different sites and then writing descriptions and adding the tags could prove to be labour intensive, so I guess I would like to know if it's really worth it just for raising the profile of the main project and generating a few extra targeted videos.

Thanks in advance everyone

    Answers to your questions:

    Q. If that same video was uploaded to say You Tube, in order for it to be of any value, would it be necessary to write a short description using targeted key phrases, as well as putting those key phrases in the tags?

Yes, it is definitely valuable to write a description with the keywords you are trying to tag it and include those keywords in your tags. It's very beneficial.

    Q. Would it be of any real benefit to then place that same video in a multitude of other video sites?

Yes, definitely. For this, I recommend Traffic Geyser. It's an amazing service. Their site is at trafficgeyser.com.

    Q. Could the same description and tags be used to promote the same vid on other sites, or would it be wise to write a unique blurb for each site that the video was hosted on in order to avoid duplicated content?

I've never had a problem with using the same description and tags on different video sites.

    Q. Do most of the video sites use the nofollow tag for links?

Most do, some don't. I recommend using the SEO plugin for Firefox to see if they have the nofollow element added.

    Q. Is it worth investing in some kind of video posting SW so that uploading to multiple video sites can be done in one hit?

Yes, I highly recommend Traffic Geyser. It pays for itself after your first couple video uploads. You get insane amounts of traffic!

I don't think we're likely to get all that much traffic real estate is only interesting in those wanting to view property rentals and or sales, but the idea is to get some extra targeted visitors, hence the idea

I'll taking a read about Traffic Geyser a little later this evening.

Thanks once again, it is appreciated.

You definitely want to target your videos to the keywords you are optimizing for. Since you are going for Real Estate videos, I would be sure to include geo-modified keyword phrases that utilize the city, state and zip code of the property to get more targeted viewers.

The work is labor intensive, but you do it once and then all your videos are out there indefinitely. If you are interested in having someone take care of the operation for you, feel free to contact me as that is what my company specializes in.

    Good luck!

  • Perhaps this will help.
I signed up for about a dozen video sites and then placed my link on the profile section of each one.
I then went to TubeMogul.com and joined for FREE.
I now upload a new video to Tubemogul and it automatically uploads it to ALL OF THE SITES.
    It's awesome.

Definitely worth it. I made $300 on an affiliate review site with one video in 3 days.

    Hi,
One quick tip, You can use the tags of some related videos which has large number of views. It will really help you in getting more views. More views is directly proportional to the more traffic to your website.
