I'm building a brand new website & I'm new to all this SEO but I have basic knowledge about it.

This is the main site for my company, I sell on various online venues and I'm building this site to direct some search engine traffic to my ecommerce pages.

I'm working on my home page,

what kind of content would you put into a home page?

what SEO factors would you focus on when it comes to the home page?

Should I even worry about my home page being SEO optimized?

This is in regards to on-site SEO only, I'll worry about off-site later

Thanks!!

    3. Use h1 and h2 tag (where applicable).
    4. Regarding content, write something about your business and what it does (TIP: include key products/services in the homepage content. You can also mention few regions where you deliver your products/services).
    5. Don't use too many footer links on a homepage
    6. Don't forget to optimize your images (description, size)

Thank you so much for the comprehensive answer,

In regards to Breadcrumbs, I use SEO by Yoast and I just realized that they have this functionality, so all I have to do is check the box mark "enable Breadcrumbs"? is there anything else I need to keep in mind?

      Kind Regards
      Sam

What does breadcrumb navigation does? I mean how it helps. Do I have to make backlinks? Or if the content is king than backlink is not required?

You need to start by focusing on Title Tags, see that you incorporate a relevant keyword in the title tag along with your business name, once that is done you can find H1 tag relevant to the title tag.

As the next step, you need to optimize the images with alt tags and dimensions. Interlinking and URL optimization is some of the other aspects to focus on.

Design your homepage for your site user's convenience and you will meet most of the SEO requirements along the way. After all, a site that serves the user's purpose is one that Google favors anyway.

Your home page is for your site visitor's benefit. So take time to describe your product or services there; why your site user might benefit from them and what makes you an expert at providing them. Give as many details as possible about your generic product line, history, creation etc or your services (including your own background and experience). All of this information will help your user and ultimately help you get better placement in Google search. The more you write on your home page, the better your user is served.
