How importatn are inner page back links in terms of rankings?

how do you go about getting them?

Are there limits to the numbers you can get before getting slapped ?

    I agree with Fernando, on my blog my index is pr4 and have numerous PR1, 2 and 3 pages dotted throughout the blog. It all comes down to promoting specific urls and the amount of links going to one particular page can be seen in your google sitemap.
