Number of Google Search Results Shrinking

I have been monitoring a situation concerning Google for a little while now. On November 21st 2014 I typed in a particular search phrase in quotation marks in Google and 1,060,000 search results came back. After about a month on December 29th there were only 855,000 results. Just a day later on December 30th the search results dropped by more than 20,000 to 832,000. On December 31st the figure stood at 778,000.

To make things even more interesting, my country's version of Google (TT) had 10,000 more search results on December 31st for that term than the regular Google (dot com). Finally today January 2nd 2015 the search result figures stands at 522,000 on both the dot com and dot tt version of Google. That is a difference of almost 500,000 in a little over one month! It appears yet again that Google is not giving all the search results at any one time unless sites are expiring that fast without being renewed. What is your take on this because potentially it has a great impact on how one approaches SEO?

Half the time that number is just made up. Google wants to display numbers much bigger than what it really is to make the searcher feel like Google has gone through plenty of sites just to give you these few you see in front of you.

Also thousand upon thousands of spam sites are created and removed daily by google and this could be a part of it.

A better way to monitor it is to change the search settings to 100 results per page and go to the very last page to see how many results Google really has.

The number of search results for a given phrase has nothing to do with SEO anyhow, so who cares?

Looks like you need to find a real hobby.

You people have way too much time on your hands.

How about working at promoting your sites, making money?

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with a little research.
