This is my very first post!! So Hi everyone.

I have been attempting to follow some youtube videos to get some backlinks to my website PR7 and above.

I have followed the videos to the letter but can't seem to get it to work. The problem occurs when I try and enter my custom URL it then tells me to change my "A" record in my DNS to point to Tumblr 66.6.44.4

I did this and now my website has disappeared and it just shows a tumblr page???

I have managed to revert to original settings but can't get backlink - can anyone help??

Kind Regards
Mark

    Hi Markmccabe,

If you make your domains A Record pointing to a third party IP Address, all visitors over http and https requests get redirected to the given IP Adress (and it´s Host / Webspace).

This has nothing to do with backlinks in general.

If you want to build links, you must get other pages to link back to your site, rather than you linking to others.

If you found this helpful, I appreciate a quick "thanks"

You are trying to do the old Tumblr trick which doesn't work anymore.

But of course if you are changing your DNS to point to Tumblr a Tumblr page is going to be what shows up.

These "tricks" and "loopholes" are not a sustainable link building method, even when executed correctly.

Sure, get a few links here and there from tumblr and YouTube, don't go changing DNS settings and getting so technical about it though. Your link profile should appear natural.

Tumblr is good for dofollow backlinks. Hopefully people begin to share a post of yours on there with a link in it. 100 people share it, 100 new dofollow links.

I only hope you are not as clueless when you do carpet cleaning.

Why are there so many clueless people?

Rather than crying about it (like most here on WF) why don't you point the person to some info which backs your opinion?

Here's a post on Moz that backs the opinion of the guy you're mocking: How to Use Tumblr for SEO and Social Media Marketing - Moz

        1) Dofollow links

First the biggie. Links from Tumblr, unlike most other social networks are dofollow. Tumblr is at its core a blogging platform, and you have full control of how your tumblrog appears, including using dofollow links on your site.

Where things get interesting is when you consider the social aspect of Tumblr. Tumblr has social sharing functionality (called "reblogging" in Tumblr parlance) built right in, and if you have a popular post it will be reposted to many other tumblrogs.

The thing is that each of these reblogs is a dofollow backlink to your original post! That means if you have a post that is reblogged 100 times, your tumblr blog just got 100 dofollow backlinks! For even more fun, you can include a link within the post itself. By doing so, both your original post on Tumblr, and the site linked to within the post will receive the backlinks.

All the players here put down every method mentioned by anyone. I think I've seen every method put down in a negative way. They will say you can't do this or you can't do that. But then they want you to buy their product, their method. Granted these guys do know their stuff and their products may be very good. But sometimes you have to hit the trenches yourself, spend some money and work some long hours.

Perhaps the best way is to try something of each and sees what works best for you. The "doing" is the only sure method.

Tumblr is not the only place where you can get backlinks from. Fixation on one backlink source delays your progress in SEO and your case is a prime example.

Randy...good point. You can't post a review until you've posted 20 posts, but you can start a thread without any previous posts...strange.

    Hello,
Tumblr is best for getting traffic and backlinks. But you can also use Pinterest and Twitter.
Because you will get more traffic from there also.

    Hope this helps
