What is the big difference on domain names?

Say..

RedWidget.com

vs.

Red-Widget.com

Which one is better for the 2 word search?

There's no difference for SEO if that's what you're asking.

The only difference is that the second one is ugly. I hate having hyphens in the domain.

Interesting however... that some companies have chosen their hyphens as their main website... while leaving the other domain up for grabs..

Either that or they were late to the party and using a hyphen was the only way to get close to their own name.

But Chris is right, it doesn't matter for SEO on main page.

Using hyphens for extension of the page are good though. Say to separate the title words of an article.

Both will be treated same if the words are standard English (or any other language) ones - hyphen can improve readability for search engines and users for non-english/technical words.
