Bounce Rate Highly Dependent on Male / Female Audience

I've been checking my bounce rates, well actually not bounce rate but time on site and I saw that a large number of my sites had a poor time on site.

Here some reasons for that (I use Statcounter to track):

- External links on homepage, it's obvious Statcounter uses the exit links activity to measure time on site, I noticed this cause the links open in a new window so it's not really an exit from that point of view.

- Amount of content on homepage, I saw that shorter homepages performed way better than long homepages, perhaps cause my pages look a bit chaotic, a friend of mine also has lengthy homepages and he does a lot better, but the layout of his pages is much more pleasent on the eye,s and more informative like a huge overview page decently structured/setup.

- Introduction, the sites of mine that got straight to business answering the user query have a much higher "bounce" rate than the ones that start with a solid introduction like: "Hi, I am Dennis and like to welcome you to my site....."

Ok now let's stick to the thread topic:

Male vs Female

I chose all the themes for my sites but also asked my partner to chose a theme, which I personally considered the most ugly one but well, it was worth a try.

And guess what? The theme I didn't choose performed BEST of all!!!

What do my sites sell:

Site 1: Female hobby product

Site 2: Kitchen appliance (I suppose more females shop for that, sorry for being old fashioned)

Site 3: Juicers, once again I think more females buy this online

Site 4: Home & Living technical appliance, definitely male niche

My partner chose the theme for the juicers site, and the theme looks a tiny bit girlish, and it performs best of all.

The Home & Living tech site, uses a theme that I would definitely classify as male, straight lines, to the point, tight, if you see it I bet you would agree, this one performed second best.

The other two sites that have a more "male" theme perform much worst then the theme that connects to males and the other theme that connects to females.

So when you build a new site, decide whether this attracts males or females, and ask your wife or girlfriend or a slight feminim gay to help you in selecting the theme and you'll see you'll perform a lot better!

There's other factors that can help keep traffic on a page/site.

Your selling a juicer product so why not build out a category of free juicer recipes & advertise juicers across the entire recipe category pages. That will keep traffic on your site longer, still sell juicers & draw in traffic you would never have without the multiple recipe pages/keywords.

Repeat with the other niches, give away something free to draw in traffic that will stick around the site/s, advertise the product at the same time.

I already have such category, though I haven't put juicer reviews in between, you mean in the same category as excerpts right or do you mean on post level, somewhere in between the recipe or after it or something like that?

Colors play a huge role in how behaves with men and women.

Want to see a bounce rate go up on a site for women? Make brown the primary color throughout the site and see what happens.

So yeah, if you have male or female specific targeting sites, you need to pay a little extra attention to your color scheme.

From what I've read on nik0s past WF threads his only goal was to bounce traffic to Amazon, which leads me to believe he's not creating content for traffic so there's no incentive for traffic to look at multiple pages on his site/s.

If he wants traffic to stick around he needs to give them a reason (decent content). When I search Google & land on a crappy page I bail because I assume If the first page is crap, the rest of the pages on the same domain are crap.

I am playing around a bit with that now, normally we only added "filler" content such as recipes to please Google, not really from a visitor perspective.

I just demonetized my homepage on one of my other sites and guess what happens:

350 unique visitors - 100 clicks to Amazon with monetized homepage
350 unique visitors - 45 clicks to Amazon with non monetized homepage

The site I talk about now (not the juicer site) has very decent informative content, no crappy Indian stuff, so I was pretty stunned by this absurd drop in clicks to Amazon, so now I'm working on monetizing my reviews in a better way so let's see what happens and let's see what happens in terms of conversions.

Somehow I have the idea I could just as well push them directly to Amazon but time will tell.
