Bad SEO Practice >> Why not Google Impose strict rules

Few days ago, a client of mine proposed me to do bad SEO for few of his competitor. So, that he can kick some people out of his business (currently his website on 3rd page on a very competitive keyword). Although I did not take the job, as my point view this is really a bad work to do.

After thinking a lot, what would happen, though I did't take the job but some one will definitely do. Say; client say; hey take this URL and do what ever you want, balck hat seo or whatever...you are free to do anything...link building by blindly...blah blah blah....So my client win by doing harm to his competitors.

Why not Google impose some strict rules in order to create backlinks? It's not a great deal although (I am sorry, I am not a scholar). but my little tiny head always asking me why not Google or other search engine or website also don't impose some strict rules. Say; a website will give a back-link unless or otherwise the domain is not verified by them, I meant by the owner or the authorized person of that domain who wants a back-link.

Some will say; competitor may disavow those bad back-links...but my point is; why they? why they again invest or elapse money/time in order to get rid of the situation but he is not responsible for this....

Please let me know your thoughts.

Welll, let me first say it's not so easy to tank an established site that ranks for a highly competitive keyword, more likely you strengthen their site even more.

But yes it's a bloody pathetic method in less competitive niches.

Obvious Google can't do anything about it as then everyone would spam as hard as they can and Google would only value the link they classify as decent enough and it would be dead easy to spam yourself to the top.

What you just wrote a whole post about is called negative SEO. Well, everyone is free to do SEO the way they want, positively or negatively. Normal SEO is somewhat negative in nature because other sites go down one spot as your site moves up.

I doubt if you have any real clients.

Negative SEO does not work and is some sham pulled by idiotic SEO gurus
      who don't know shinola.

Disavow? Yeah. Right. I would bet that large, authoritative sites, ( and most
non) do not use analytics. You think amazon gives a rip about that? Sure
they do. Wikipedia has probably got the worst links out there. Are
"they" disavowing? Do they give rat's behind? Oh don't get me wrong...
they use some sort of it...but actually caring about what google thinks is
      quite funny.

Mentioning disavow is just laughable. The world does not even know
about disavow, let alone going to use such a useless animal.

Google tells you that negative SEO does not work for a whole host
of reasons. Any real SEO person with real SEO clients would actually
      know that.

Obviously the chap is not happy that he is on page three, and is paying
cash to someone who has no clue as to how to get them to page one.
And if it's not possible, then it's not possible. Period.

      Yes, Virginia, the truth hurts.

Doing this sort of seo is just wrong and unethical and would probaly be a waste of time and money in the end like others have stated .Your client would be better off doing more to promote his own site and rank it that way.

I just wonder, being you're a professional seo who has a client.. if you don't know what negative seo is by now, then what rock have you been under? Trying to not sound dickish, just.. yeah. Next question?

Google imposes 'rules' only to the extent that a site may or may not be indexed by google. Google doesn't actually create backlinks, they index sites and pages. Web owners create backlinks.

So now everybody who wants to link out, or even wants a link on other sites, needs to be verified and permission granted by King Google the Third?

Anyways, what I think you are getting at is, what ways can we prevent people from performing neg seo on sites ranking higher than them. Well, if this client is on page 3, he needs to find someone that can knock out, what, at least 30 sites ranking above him?

That's a lotta spam runs, and to knock out even the last page on page 1 for anything even worth trying to do what he's doing, would not only be more work, and cost as much, if not more, to neg seo 30 sites than it would to build up his own site, and actually have something deserving and worthy to be on top.

Besides, whether or not you think it's ethical or will or won't take the job, I don't think you would even begin to know how to go about doing that. Which makes me wonder about your professional seo services. Just sayin'

Dear! I love your answer. I already mention on my post that, I am not a scholar. Still I am learning. Thought that, If I know the answer of my questions then I will not post it. By the way, thanks a lot for your very helpful answer...I am eagerly waiting to learn more. It is not bad for a learner to have a client. is it?

If you are located in the UK this is considered the same as a DDOS attack.

Indeed. Probably not the best craft to be involved in. It's either considered Criminal or an Act of Civil Disobedience.
