Is it useful to optimize website homepage's meta description with keywords for SEO? I know it's useless for inner pages, because google won't show meta descriptions from inner pages (in normal search results), but it still shows my homepage's meta description when I search for something what is written in my description by adding those words to "".

Depends whether you want to rank the homepage ot the site wide.
I would suggest to focus more on quality contents, because more contents you produce and more opportunity to rank you have.
Meta descritpion works, but not as 30 great articles.

Yes it's very useful. But do not over-optimized it by adding keywords upon keywords. Make sure your description tag is catchy. Think as if you are advertising your website (you know what I mean). Adding your site's primary and secondary keyword is okay. But do not go overboard please.

Secondly, I may disagree with you that Google doesn't show meta descriptions on inner pages because they do. In fact, almost all of my site's inner pages meta description shows up in Google SERPs.

The fact is that Google tends to fetch descriptions to display depending on the query of the searcher. So if Google sees that the default meta description does not fit the searched query, they may tend to retrieve relevant excerpts from the page's content that would be more relevant to the query.

But Google do display inner pages inner description. So make sure you add it and also make it look very catchy and nice.

I guess your slightly confused because Google could care less If it's a home page or internal page.

If there's a meta description tag in the HTML odds are Google will display that text in the SERP description. If your not seeing your meta description text on a regular basis across multiple pages on the domain, your doing something to make that happen on your end (search query + relevancy).

If I a publish a new article and set meta description with yoast seo plugin, after my article is indexed in google, I copy-paste one sentence from my meta description, I paste that sentence in "" and google can't find it. The same goes for all other articles. And some are indexed like months ago, still not showing in normal search results. If I paste direct url to my article in google search, google will show meta description.

Its only one page, why not put a description in place. It could help you, take almost no time to do and you can use it as a call to action in your SERPS listings

As Yukon said in his post, Google displays meta descriptions for internal pages and homepages. If you think Google is ignoring the meta descriptions of your internal pages, do a site:domain.com search in Google to see what is being displayed for your internal pages.

For optimal use of your website as an advertising instrument, Meta tags are valuable. Meta tags are essential to every website since they are used by many search engines to allow them to more accurately list your site in their indexes and to rank your website for keywords and search terms. These tags help web indexing robots better understand your website for the purpose of assigning it a ranking in their database under specific search terms.

Site homepage meta description is one of the most important item for bloggers and websites.
