Hey guys,

Been a long time!

Over a decade ago I put together a website that has worked well through the years. I get great rank. It is in Microsoft FrontPage lol.

Present Day 2015, I hear over and over that I need to mobilize my website because "I'm losing 80% of visitors who try to view on their iphone, droid, etc"...

Is this true?

Moreover, if I mobilize my website, I assume there is a redirect (file?) that I plant in my host...WILL THIS HURT RANK? I'm stifled by the fear that it would hurt my rank.

thanks in advance for any input,

ash

Technically, any change in a website can affect its ranking. Although, established sites are more stable and not affected by minor changes as much.

As far as making your site mobile friendly, do you know what percentage of your traffic is viewing the site from a mobile device? If not, this is something I would start tracking immediately in addition to other stats.

If the percentage is fairly low, it may not even be worth it to have a mobile redirect. On the other hand, if it is high, you can potentially increase your conversions and rankings in the mobile search results.

If you do decide to make your site mobile friendly, just be sure not to mess up the redirect. Here is some information to get you started on using a mobile redirect and avoiding common mistakes.

  • Google this year started to put more emphasis on mobile website since now at least 50% of all searches are done on mobile devices. Infact Google has a place where you can test to see if your website is mobile friendly https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...bile-friendly/

If your website is not mobile friendly, Google has stated it will affect your ranking in the mobile market which as I stated above is now 50% and that is a lot to lose if you don't.

I use Serif Web Plus which not expensive for doing website design and it is simple drag and drop...not like Dreamweaver or others. It has a built in option for the home page to re-direct users using mobile devices to your mobile website which you also design in Serif Web Plus. A mobile website is the same as regular website except it's 320 pixels in width instead of 1024 pixels.

A re-direct based on mobile users only will not affect your ranking because it's not re-directing all users just the ones with mobile devices.
