Ok heres the question...

i just ran a ppc campaign with adwords, with about 50 words

now i want to drop the list down to about 10-13 words...

i have some words that have a high clickthrough rate (13%) but low impressions (300)

then i have some with a low CTR but a high amount of impressions

which keywords do you think i should spend more time with and spend more money on..

thanks in advance

    Remove low ROI, unprofitable keywords.

I guess in the end, you want to see what your conversion rate is on the high CTR and the high impressions.

    Conversions are key.

Besides that, you want to have a high CTR too, since that is what google wants and you will get rewarded by a good quality score and paying less.

So I would keep the keywords with good CTR (and conversions) and look at the high volume keywords with ok CTR and improve on them by more relevance in adcopy (make an own adgroup for them).

I would drop all very low CTR keywords, especially if you dont see a way on how to improve them by handling them individually.

That all matters only if there are conversions after a significant amount of clicks, as said before.

Lower CTR will increase your PPC costs within Adwords. Highly targeted and better CTR is much more desirable, assuming of course that the conversions are there as well.

Ok thanks for the replies i now have a much better understanding of what i should be looking for.but it has led me to 2 more questions...

how do you know which keywords led to conversions??
(im guessing thats where prosper 202 comes in) i guess..

and if i have a good ctr then how do i increase the conversion rate
(im guessing that can only be done by changing the landing page)??

Yes Prosper202 can help you with this but first you have to set up the tracking when a sale is made on the vendors side. Usually its a code you ask them to update for you that is placed on their thank you/receipt page.

To improve your conversion rate, you can't do anything on the sales page but you can split test your ad title, copy and landing page elements(if you're not direct linking) for better results.

The very best thing is to use the Google Conversion Tracking. It's in the top menu under "tools". If you have your own page, place the Javascript on the success-page, when the conversion (sale) has taken place.

If you promote products from others, ask them to place your conversion pixel. If you are using affiliate networks most of them can place the pixel easily now (some even have it in the interface, like azoogle and neverblue).

That's the easiest way, because you see your conversions to the keywordlevel right in adwords then. You can even optimize on conversions later with this data.

and if i have a good ctr then how do i increase the conversion rate
(im guessing that can only be done by changing the landing page)??
Landingpage yes. But no, not only. You could prepare the user in the ad-text as well, presell him better. A small example:

If you sell information and say in the ad "Get this information now!" the user may think it's free. You get a high CTR but low Conversions, since he is disappointed that he should pay.
If you say "Get the Info discouted at $9.97" it may lower CTR slightly, but may raise conversion rate.

        That was only one example.

Adcopy and Landingpage improvements can increase your conversions.
The key is to improve the relevancy from ad to the landingpage. In fact try to create a harmony from the keyword to the adcopy to the landingpage. If that is a flow, you will convert nicely

i hope this thread helps out many more.

Yeah, all your click through rates and impressions are useless information unless you know where the conversions are.

Hell you could have a keyword getting 5,000 impressions and a 50% CTR but still lose money.

I use tracking202 Pro, which is sometimes frustrating to a non-techie, but it does it's job.

Once the tracking is all set up than you can split test your ad variations and landing pages assuming that your aren't direct linking.
