    As per my experience, if you are looking to optimize your article for SEO, then use your the keyword 2-3 times, its better you can use key phrases. Before submitting it to any site, check the keyword density first and then go for it. To measure your SEO performance can review this too. Some good information are there to improve basics.

    In an effort to simplify this important step, I first try to answer the following questions:
    · How do I describe what I offer or sell?
    · How do my main competitors describe what they offer or sell?

    My answers will form the first list of phrases or keywords to be analyzed. To proceed, I use some tools to determine which keywords to prioritize:

    1. Use ubersuggest.org to harvest the relevant keywords as suggested by the Google search bar.

    2. Use the Google Adwords Keyword Planner to get estimates of traffic and competition level. Look for those keywords with about 100 searches and above, per month, at the local level; and then, select those which are considered by Google as having medium to low competition.

    3. If you download a file to help you in analyzing, you will see a numerical value that Google attaches to a keyword telling its competition level.

    4. Create a list of keywords which satisfy the requirements (enough search volume and relatively low competition), ordered starting from the highest competition. Prioritize 10 keywords first.

    This list of keywords will be used for creating a website (or web-content) structured according to what Google determines as relevant.

    Let me give you some quick tips here.

    You need to do On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.

    On-Page SEO

    - Use your keyword in the headings – H1, H2 and H3.
    - Use your keyword in the Title.
    - Use your keyword in the first sentence and in the last sentence of your article.
    - Make sure your keyword is in the URL.
    - Make sure you Underline, Bold and Italicize your keyword. That means you need one keyword in bold / one keyword underlined and one keyword italicized.
    - Make 1 to 3 of your keywords in the article – click-able/hyperlinked.
    - Put your keyword in Alt Tags – you need to upload an image on your post and put your keyword in the ALT Description of the image.
    - Make sure your keyword is in the MetaTags Title and Description.

    Off-Page SEO

    - Backlinks
    - Social Shares
    - Comments

    I guess you are talking about on page SEO? Use appropriate keywords (primary and secondary) in a natural flow and get the content done for humans...not bots. And oh yes, use headers and subheaders preferably with KWs.
