Domain For A PBN Niche Should We Use Niche Relevant or Generic Domains?

Hi all in the PBN arena. I want to ask do you guys generally buy expired domains that are relevant to the niche you are targeting or do you buy any generic domain with good metrics and theme the site to then match your target site? I have heard people in the SEO field say you should only focus on niche relevant domains as this will probably be picked up by the big G in a futre algo update even if you theme your domain to match your target site. Should you then just use niche relevant domains in order to be safe from any update that may penalise this in the future.
