Question about my listing in google?

Hey I have a newer website and google just indexed one of my keywords..When I saw the listing, it says "site name- just another wordpress site"..what did I not do for that title to say that? I doubled check my homepage description, title ect..Everything seems to be in order.. I don't want to be just another WP site.. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.. Thanks..

    That's the default tagline for Wordpress. If you've already changed it in your WordPress dashboard, Google should re-crawl the page and update it soon.

    Aloha jazzd1,

    I'm going to assume that this is a wordpress site. If that's the case, changing the site title is actually a pretty easy thing to do. Here are the steps:

    1. Log into your wp-admin page

    2. Click on the settings tab located on the left side of the page

    3. Then locate and click on the general tab located under the settings tab you just clicked

    4. Now you can see where your site title name is located and change the title to whatever you want

    5. Last step which is very important. Click the "save changes" button located at the bottom of the page.

    And that should do it. Now you can check out your website in the browser. Refresh your browser and you should see that the title has now been changed. Hope that helps

    jazzd1, if you're using a template other than the default WP templates, you may need to change the tagline within the template preferences/settings. I had one template that would always revert back to the the default WP tagline. It's quite possible that it was just a badly coded template, but it's always worth the time and effort to check the template settings.

      Great to hear that you have been able to get the job done. However, one tip...

      You can use this plugin (NO-1 SEO Plugin) https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
      And be sure to fill Tittle, Meta Description and Keywords... With this plugin, you can also set the same for each individual pages/posts. Which will be useful for the site in the long term.

        All in one SEO pack is a great plugin. I used it on all my sites until I found this one, WordPress SEO by Yoast https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/ I was in a Word Press training class online, and the trainer (a contributor to the development of WP) recommended SEO by Yoast. Since that time I have changed over all of my WP blogs.

        The Page Analysis is worth its weight in gold. It will remind you of some simple SEO items that you may be overlooking. The Yoast team has done a really nice job of developing this plugin. Are any other WF members using this plugin?
