I have a startup brewery tour business. A large part of my advertising is printed material and word of mouth. I have a Wordpress web site that is mobile friendly, I am having difficulty getting any sort of ranking from Google. I thought it would quite a bit easier since most of the searches would include the name of the city, for example "brewery tours tampa bay:, Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Have you written any posts yet? Consider writing some if you haven't. Develop the posts with the idea of getting them ranked for local SEO keywords.

There are a ton of threads on this forum to help you get started.

First work on your on-site SEO. Make sure everything is spotless. Off-site SEO is another story and needs more planning. Look around the forum and you'll find your way. Tons of info on this subject. Good luck OP.

It seems that you are targeting specifically for a particular area. So, in my opinion you have to do local seo. Try to find your local searched keywords, use them to build content. And also try to build quality backlinks.

^ I agree. Doing local SEO will help a lot! Write some articles and write an interesting "about us" page, using local keywords of course.

Target some long tail keywords and work around it, see that you update your blog section on a regular basis with articles related to the keywords that you have chosen. Share these blogs in social media sites and see that you gain maximum exposure.

    Links, links and links.

If you keep creating content that will, without a doubt, help. However, without some level of links, you're not going to rank for quite some time.

Have you created a resource about where to stay, taxi/car services etc? Basically a vacation guide including some referrals. Choose referrals at least partially based on whom will link back to you.

    It's not perfect, but it's a start.

As everyone said, quality backlinks are very important for your website to rank higher. Also, see if you can post in your local classifieds ads. Make sure to post a link to your website.

What SEO plugin are you using?

I recommend SEO Yoast or All In One SEO.

They all have different default settings, you need to figure out the best way to go about it otherwise it could create lots of duplicates pages which may affect your SEO ranking.

Next, you need to optimize your pages for their respective keywords.

I presume you already know this.

Most importantly, you need top notch quality links from relevant sources.

I did look up this keyword out of interest, about 10 -50 backlinks on the top ten listings.
