Acceptible Number of Organic Searches for my Keywords

Any of you guys have a 'rule of thumb' to an acceptable number of Organic Searches Per Month?

Is 10k a good number to stick with?

It seems like any number above this , it gets too difficult for me to get my site pages one page one of Google (as these keywords tend to be highly competitive).

**Granted I've not been in online marketing for over 4 years now so things might have changed!!

I'd image a number like 2,000 isn't enough to be profitable as well/

Just looking for the 'sweet spot' so to speak.

Any Thoughts?

It's not the number of searches, really, it's the competition. Hop over to Google and research terms like "ranking analysis," "seo analysis," "seo competition," "how to rank websites," etc., etc.

Welcome, buddy. I'm sorry I couldn't go into more detail. It's just one of those subjects. Big! I'd be days trying to format the information into a post. Like I say, your best bet: search for terms like "how to rank." You could even dig around WF on Google. Site:WarriorForum.com how to rank.

2,000 searches could be plenty to support a business in some markets.

There is no rule of thumb, except what some wannabe gurus "guess."

Every market is different and the competition is different.

Some keywords are considered "buyers" words, others are not.

In addition, are you talking "broad" match, "phrase" match, or "exact" match?

You see, there are so many variables that you need to understand when trying to make sense of keywords for organic search.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, you will then hear many marketers say that the numbers of searches online reported by Google, Bing, and others are not even close to reality.

You should not use any kind of "rule of thumb". It entirely depends on what you are selling. If you are selling something that makes you $10k/sale, I would be going after keywords that only get 10 searches a month.

On the other hand, if I will only make a few dollars per sale, I'm not going to really target smaller volume keywords as heavily.

Really though, I rarely rule out any keywords that relate to my target market. IM'ers think too small.

In the past ( about 2 years ago) I could manage to rank 2 of my niche specific sites on 1-2 pages of Google that have search volume in the range 20k-25k. Don't know about the present situation but the IMO 10k search volume still sounds good for a medium range competition.

Search volume really does not tell you about competition. I could show you terms that get less than 300 searches a month, but are more competitive than most terms getting 10,000 searches a month.

Keyword competition is important not the keyword traffic. If your keyword is like "attorney', "mortgage" even 2000 traffic keyword will be highly competitive whereas non monetary keywords even with 10k search have less competition
