Keyword requirements for authority site

Hi guys. I'm new to internet marketing and I have the following question: I would like to create my own authority site in a specific niche, but I'm not sure which keyword to choose to start off, I like one which has 1300 monthly visits (in Spain) and I could target other keywords with many more searches per month, would I be limited though if i start off by targeting a 1300 monthly visits keyword with my homepage and using this keyword for the domain? Thanks in advance.

    I would question 1300 views per month, seems kind of low, i would of thought several hundred thousand, but either way, you will need quite a lot of authority to rank for this keyword, some competition sites have excess of 80,000 backlinks, and you also have Wikipedia to contend with.

    If it is such a small number, it seems kinda pointless to be honest, a better approach might be to scale it down, perhaps have a map on the homepage, and do a page on each part of Spain, making Spain the homepage keyword. With lots of content and plenty of internal link structure it might just be plausible to take these on.

    At the very least you could obtain all the smaller traffic from the different parts of Spain, even remote places of interest.

    Just a thought.

      OP didn't say what niche/keyword, how could 1,300 be low?

      What If OP is selling cars, houses, insurance, etc..., 1,300 could potentially be a boat load of income.

      I'll take 1,300 extra niche traffic any day of the week.

        I thought he wanted somethihng like the keyword Spain, so unless he is selling holidays or Spain itself he ain't going to make much, if he doesn't know what leyword he wants, chances are he is not selling anything. lol

          I see what your saying, yea, something isn't right If Spain is the keyword. Besides, a keyword like Spain isn't searching for a product/service.

          I took it to mean he was targeting searchers in Spain, not the word Spain.

            Hi guys, thanks for all the replies, and yeah, MikeFriedman is right, I just meant that the 1300 searches were in Spain, because the website would target a Spanish audience, I'm pretty sure that a keyword like "Spain" would have way more than 1300 searches

    Hey mate well done with your keyword research so far. I would select 10-12 keywords per article some with moderate to high comp some easy comp and low search vol.

    You should be able to achieve this fairly quickly with keyword suggest and adwords KW tool. Having said that. Keyword Canine is the way to go for pumping out lots of relative keywords and shows competition levels. (Found not always acurate)

    I usually try go for keywords above 100 and I've gone after keywords successfully with up to 300,000 monthly visitors. the more keywords you add gives you varied anchor text.

    1300 monthly searches isn't bad and you can always target higher volume keywords on the same page after ranking for the low competition keyword. If you're still concerned, target the low competition keyword on an internal page and the high competition/volume keyword on the homepage.

    Hey don't go with single keyword just find long tail keywords for the main keyword

    ie if your keyword is "places to visit in spain" use keyword like
    "beautiful places to visit in spain"
    "places to visit for in madrid"
    "beautiful places to visit in southern spain"
    "important places to visit in southern spain"

    I think you get the idea
