Best use of keywords for website

Hi everyone,

New here, thanks for all the great advice on this forum! Before I create my first website I had a question regarding keyword search volume and how to use them in the best way for my website. If I found the following keywords for example, which should I use for the website home page for the best SEO?

keyword 1 - 500 searches monthly (general broad category of niche)
keyword 2 - 4000 searches monthly (product category #1)
keyword 3 - 3000 searches monthly (product category #2)
keyword 4 - 2000 searches monthly (product category #3)
and so on

What I am unsure of is using the overall general category of the niche for the home page when it has a significantly lower search volume than the actual niche categories and products. On a side note, this general category keyword would be harder to rank for than the actual categories and products. Should I use the highest volume product search for the homepage? Maybe this is not important at all? Thanks for any responses!

Generally, you want to think to yourself, "When people want to find a solution to their problem, which my website solves, what will they be searching for?" Then find the closest related keyword that has the highest search volume.

Since this is a new website, you may want to target a long-tail keyword, because they're usually easier to rank for.

One of the coolest (and easiest) ways to find long tail keywords is to do a Google search for your main keyword, then scroll to the very bottom of the page where is says "Searches related to [Your Keyword]".

Plug those search terms into your keyword tool and choose the one with 1) the highest search volume and 2) the one that is most relevant to your site.

Typically, if you can target a keyword with at least 10,000 searches, you're in good standing. but don't get too caught up in the actual number. You want to find the keyword that is relatively higher than the rest.

You'll also want to do a search for the keyword you're targeting and take a look at all of the top ranking sites. Check out how they're optimizing for the keyword, the quality of their site, etc., and find ways to stand out to both search engines and visitors.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions.
