How to check broken link?

If you are on WordPress then install a plugin like 'Broken link checker (WP)' and for generic site try some online tools like this Broken Link Checker (Online)

+ 1 on Broken Link Checker. I run it on all my sites now. The only bad thing is that it does have a fairly large false positive return because of problems on other sites. I find that about half the time I need to tell it the link is OK.

^ this! I love the tool, but it takes a while to bring out all the results, and then fails due to broken links on other sites.

Ahrefs can do this, or Xenu site sleuth (watch out! resource and bandwidth hog). Personally I would use Xenu.

Another option is A1 Website Analyzer, but it is a paid tool (with a trial though) which also includes many other features, so it may be overkill if you only need to check internal links.

I stick to the online option deadlinkchecker.com now; it takes awhile but it's found a lot of broken links the plugin failed to find for whatever reason.
