Did I over-optimize my backlink anchor text?

I was manually building some backlinks this past week for a keyword I am trying to rank a webpage for and I noticed that just yesterday, when I checked to see where Google was ranking that webpage by typing in the keywords, the webpage has completely disappeared. It was on page 5 for the keywords but now, it is nowhere to be seen. Did I most likely go a little too far with the anchor text and it tripped the Penguin algorithm or am I just being too paranoid?

For now, you're being paranoid IF you obtained links on quality sites and you varied your anchor text. You have to remember that some of those backlinks will show up after one day, others won't show up for months. That's the world of link building.

Give it a week or two and check again.

It could be a number of things.. Maybe Google was just doing some updates and moving things around (you may come back in a day or two), maybe you got the sandbox effect (you may come back in a month or so), maybe you got penalized (you may never come back), or numerous other things. I think kk075 gave you good advice. Don't freak out yet, give it a little bit and check back.

On another note though - You should be mixing your anchor texts up, at least a little. Don't use the exact same keywords/keyphrase for every single backlink.

I do face the same issue since day before. For couple of keywords like "Kerala Honeymoon Packages", "Kerala Honeymoon" we were on the 3rd page and 4th page respectively. My website is honeymoontourskerala (dot) com. Now it's totally disappeared for the above 2 keywords. For keyword "Kerala Honeymoon Tours", we have been moved down from 2nd position to 3rd position on the first page. Webmaster still says our position is 41 for keyword "Kerala Honeymoon Packages", but we are not there in the first 100 results. Webmaster doesn't show any errors. What could be the reason for this and how could I solve this immediately. Already removed few anchor texts with website links from most of the press releases, blogs etc. What's the next step? Should I use Fetch as Google. Same question was listed in Google webmaster support, didn't get any proper answer.

If you built the backlinks recently, this could be the knock on effect "dancing" where sites rise and fall during link building.

Mix up your variations with other simliar keywords and generic keywords , variation plays a big role these days

For now i think your worrying too much, just let things settle first before making any needed adjustments

Thanks for the info. Shall wait and see. Now we have been disappeared from other 3 more keywords - Kerala Honeymoon, Honeymoon Tours in Kerala, Honeymoon Tours to Kerala etc. Don't know if it's a severe penalty.
