I've read in a few articles that e-commerce websites such as amazon, ebay, or any other website focused solely on selling products tend to have a much easier time in ranking in the SERP. Anybody have any information regarding this claim??

Yeah, it's true, and it isn't limited to just ecommerce sites. All authority sites rank easily. The New York Times and Wikipedia are examples of non-ecommerce sites that rank well with ease.

When you are that large, websites focus on what they need to focus on. SEO techniques should still be followed to be able to make sure they are on top of the game.

The only reason why an e-commerce site rank easier in SERP is because of their "Site Structure". "Siloing" man! Siloing!

Amazon, ebay, and other top websites like you've listed will rank easier because they're so old and have millions of different links pointing to them. Still, when it comes to certain long tail keywords you can usually rank above them pretty easily.

Not exactly correct, you can rank new sites next to Amazon/eBay on mass keywords, but you need to understand how large business do it which is very different to small business. Enterprise companies are not good with long tail, primarily because niche is time based which means low revenue, in many cases the effort doesn't justify the return.

eCommerce with 10,000s to 100,000s products do rank easier, more content, but you need technology to support you. We found the core starting point is 20,000 products where ranking becomes simpler, under this and the dynamics are closer to content sites. The content sites are driven by resource so need constant content updates, they are different business approaches to the same goal, generating revenue.
