I know it could be popular, but no one searches for it

I am thinking about making a site that appeals to a certain niche. I have run it by a few of my friends who say they would love a site like that, (this also rings true with others in that niche) but NO ONE searches for this kind of thing. On that note, I would be the first and only resource for it. Problem is, if no one is searching for it, how can I hope to get traffic without forking over huge sums of money?

      Hi higakun,

It's known as education marketing and yes it can be expensive. If you approach it in th right way, it can be reasonable. Curiosity is a very powerful emotion and can be the hook for something new and different.

You can bid very low on PPC ads if nobody is competing with you. Since there would be little search traffic, you could target the content network for effective traffic generation.

Find the site your customer is most likely to visit.

If the site has adwords on it run an adword campaign on the content network for that site. Or just write and article with a link back to your site and let them put it on their site.

Finding a niche with active searches is best because you still need to create a site, write content, get traffic, etc.

That is hard enough without also having to create the market in that niche. If there is a product to promote that is decent, it might be worthwhile if you are willing to use PPC.

I'd do some serious google searches for competition, check for keywords and see if people are placing ads in this niche. If there is no competition, few keyword searches and few or no PPC ads - there might not really be much of a niche there.

If there is a good product to promote or a related niche that is active, it might be worth it. This is a case where serious research is needed before putting time and effort into it.

I am running a blog where I there is a little competition and the price is highly rewarding... Sometimes, it's also hard to maintain your position on top...

Find something related that has an audience it may appeal to. Do your research well on this and turn as many stones as you can. Create an introductory product that someone can benefit from and send people to survey where they can tell you what their interest level would be and in order to get the survey results they need to opt in - this is sort of a qualifier and also allows you to build a list you can market to if you get a favorable enough response, you will also get a glimpse at what people want that you can give to them.

If you feel response is good then let that list continue to build and in the meantime go and promote some more and spread the word and create your site/product in the meantime.

    Then let her loose.
