Using niche unrelated high authority domain

I have two domains:
ABC - Expired domain and inactive for two years with high authority in news release niche
XYZ - Money site in toys niche

The two domains are unrelated. What is the best approach to use the domains?
Since the niche are unrelated, I didn't want to do a 301 redirect. I was thinking of rebranding ABC in the title meta-tag as 'News By XYZ'

1. XYZ will link to ABC's wordpress in the menu navigation
2. ABC then links back to XYZ in the form of blog posts

Similar to how some sites host their blog on tumblr.

Question: If I own the domain, is it okay to rebrand my expired domain as 'ABC blog by XYZ' and cross link these two domains? Is what I am doing considered a PBN - will it be looked down by G? How would you rebrand and redirect link juice from non-related high authority domain without penalty?

    - It's okay to rebrand.
    - If you are going to cross link both sites to distribute link juice to your money site, put both on different hosting accounts.

Is there a particular reason why I should put it on different hosting accounts if I am going to distribute link juice to my money site? I am rebranding ABC as a child company of XYZ? 'News by XYZ'.

I've seen some sites having primary domain for the website and a secondary domain for a blog. What is it that they are doing with two domains that cross link without penalty?

I don't encourage you to use PBN. Use other high quality backlink building like broken link building.
