Does getting positive comments help your SEO?

Hey everybody. Been a while since I've been on, but after 3 months of having my very 1st blog - I've finally gotten indexed in the search engines and have been seeing an increase in traffic, subscribers and positive comments from people that have seen my YouTube videos and articles. I have been making a YouTube video every day for a couple months now and just changed my cover pictures on them the other night which has started to get me alot more traffic. I was mostly wondering if positive feedback from comments help your SEO? I've been trying to reply to some but have had about 20 in the last 2 days and even had people asking me what theme I'm using and that they really like it and would like to make their own. Just wanted to say thanks to everybody in the forum for setting me on the right path and patience is starting to pay off. Peace

    Hi NB,

    Congrats!

Oh yes, comments are content, and when you approve legit comments you're adding helpful, valuable content to your blog posts. Google likes that. Big time. So keep the engagement train going, keep helping, connecting and chatting, and as those comments improve in numbers, and in depth, Google will look upon your blog favorably.

Comments are simply add ons to whatever you've already published; video-wise, review-wise, article-wise. So they are pure gold, and I can say, after scoring some 4,000 comments on my blog over the past 7 months, they are an invaluable form of social proof, too. People want to be part of the party, chatting, connecting and offering their views, and you give them the platform to do that through your blog.

    Onward and upward!

Comments on your YouTube video won't help your website rank in the search engines, but it will help increase your ranks and visibility across YouTube itself. I don't believe comments on your actual blog (like Wordpress) would really increase your results in the search engines.

If that was the case then website owners would simply add many positive comments themselves!

A site owner could just repeatedly add positive comments, one after another. If the site owner is paranoid, he could add comments using a proxy so they look like they come from different sources.

A site owner could just manually edit the website database and plug in many new comments.

And like someone else mentioned, how does Google exactly recognize a "positive" comment from a "negative" comment?

Regarding comments, you're better off turning them off so you can avoid the ton of spam comments that come with a page that has commenting turned on.

Make the "positive" part of your site good content, not "positive" comments. And then work to get quality backlinks to the page. That's good SEO.

Yes. Comments helps a lot especially when it comes to SEO. You see, SEO is just another type of content on its own.

But other SEO may argue otherwise. Some SEOs said that if you try to rank for a search term, too much of comments will dilute the keyword density of the search term.

I tend not to agree with them because I see comment - whether on blog post or otherwise - to be very invaluable.

Do people in here really think Google can tell the difference between a positive and negative comment?

I mean don't get me wrong, you should be aiming to get positive comments. Why wouldn't you? But it has nothing to do with SEO. The amount of people in here saying the opposite is quite worrying.

I would say it is all about the experience that you give the reader and if you are getting bad comments on something then you need to delete it and fix the problem a.s.a.p. I understand that you are saying it is all about adding content to your website but adding a bad comment to your website is worse than adding spam

Positive comments make as positive blog, so that readers can be benefited what they are searching. These comments also turn into keywords for traffic. Also post valuable replies to those comments to have beautiful conversation.

That kind of sounds like spam to me. I would only approve genuine comments that actually add value to your website. I've done some more research on this and those appear to be the best way to build your SEO and get even more people to make great comments when they check out your website. I just think it is kind of cool that people actually like it after all of the time that I have put into building it up and that means more to me than anything else.

Positive comments are helpful for getting ranked your blog post. Goggle takes it seriously for ranking a website. But you need to concern about the spam comment.

I agree and was happy to see that I had 31 comments when I checked just a little bit ago. Out of those I only had a couple that were spam and for the most part they were saying that that they wanted to read more of my articles. I went ahead and approved them and I'm hoping that this will continue to get even more comments from them. Starting out is the the toughest part but I have noticed that even with social media that once you begin getting some shares you will usually get the ball rolling and end up getting even more from them

This is total nonsense. Positive comments, or negative comments, are not going to impact your rankings.

      ROTFLMAO!

Here's what this thread should actually teach people:

Look at all posters above who say comments help. Now, ignore
anything and everything they say now, or in the future. They are full
of crapola and should be avoided at all costs.

Sadly, the minions just keep growing.

No!!. Jeez where do you get ideas like these, people ?

You can turn off comments altogether, what happens then ? You don't rank at all ?. I can show tons of videos where the comments are off and they rank fine.

Hmmm... This seems to be an ongoing debate. I would have thought that comments would be adding recent content to your website, so that in turn would show that people like what you are doing and they would even talk about or share it with people they know. It seems that it is more of a way of building a relationship with people and getting them to bookmark your site and possibly join your list as well. I've taken the time to find an all in one SEO guide here https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/ Thanks alot and hope this helps out anybody looking to build their rankings. Peace

There's no debate. It's a stupid idea. Period. Debate? Never was a debate.

Sure we can debate it. Like..um....we can debate if the moon is made of green cheese

If you think we can debate that, then no wonder you people are losing.

I was wondering myself and looked it up online to get the right answer. Looks like it is more to increase customer interaction with your site and could be a good tool for finding leads and adding loyal subscribers. I provided an all in one SEO article https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/ and only said it was a debate because everybody is either saying yes or no

For comments on your blog, I don't think they will help your post rank any.
Reason being, as the owner of the site you could just write fake comments and reply with your main account. So it would be an easy way to manipulate Google search rankings.

For YouTube, I have no idea. But I suspect the same, it won't help.

Comments help a website a lot! I don't know if it helps with rankings, probably not.. but it's possible to get some traffic thanks to comments, because at times, people use keywords without even knowing it. So, in terms of getting more traffic, I'd say it helps.
