Any Idea Why This Site is Penalized?

Google, of course will not give the specific reason. A friend recently bought this domain a week ago and wrote a blog article to publish on it. Google is saying it is penalized because it is considered spam. We asked for reconsideration thinking maybe it was penalized to due the previous content published by the prior domain owner. They reviewed and still rejected it. It's a legit article, not associated with the sale of any sort of product or service.

The only thing I can think of is that he wanted the article to appear on the home page instead of the article excerpt which Wordpress defaults to putting on the home page. To get around that we did a REWRITE in the .htaccess file that rewrites the URL on the server side so the home page is actually displaying a page on a different URL. But I would not think this would be considered cloaking. So I'm at a loss why the penalty? We have both the www and non www domain registered in Webmaster tools with the non-www address identified as the preferred URL.

I did a search on your friends site and it came up with the following reasons to why your site has been penalized:

lifetimeclarity.com - website not indexed in Google search results.

lifetimeclarity.com - home page not found in Google.

So it seems that you need to index the site and create some site navigation so that google can recognize more than just one page. One page sites are not good. You need to make sure you optimize the pages correctly so that Google will recognize your site.

The site has already been indexed. We manually submitted it vie Google Webmaster Tools. And the index report shows it has been indexed however it has been penalized as indicated:

Pure spam
Pages on this site appear to use aggressive spam techniques such as automatically generated gibberish, cloaking, scraping content from other websites, and/or repeated or egregious violations of Google's Webmaster Guidelines. Learn more.

The reconsideration request response was as follows (which of course does not indicate the specific violation. To my knowledge just because the site has only one page doesn't make it in violation.)

Google received a reconsideration request from a site owner for Online Dating Tips From a Guru.
We've reviewed your site and we believe that Online Dating Tips From a Guru still violates our quality guidelines. These guidelines outline illicit practices which may lead Google to take action on a site in order to keep webspam out of search results. In order to preserve the quality of our search engine, pages from Online Dating Tips From a Guru may not appear or may not rank as highly in Google's search results, or may otherwise be considered to be less trustworthy than sites which follow the quality guidelines.
Please correct or remove all content that is outside our quality guidelines. Keep in mind that simply deleting all of your site's content and immediately requesting reconsideration will not lead to success. Instead we recommend that you spend considerable time and effort to make sure your site provides original, valuable content for users. I think that is your biggest problem.

Plus you have no navigation at the top, no about, contact, privacy pages and little other content. Not a problem itself perhaps but together with the redirect you are asking for trouble.

I think the reason your site was rejected by Google is the unusual edit of .htaccess that made wordpress display your content in unusual as it should.

I'd recommend leaving it as it was and try sending a reconsideration request again.

I wanted to try to analyze your backlink profile, to find toxic links that maybe caused this. Majestic Seo reports 2 backlinks (Historic), ahrefs reports 5 backlinks. That is already a bit strange. Does the site have any decent backlink pointing to it?

Clue...

That old saying "you can't polish a turd" could, maybe, possibly, in some strange way known only to google perhaps apply here.

You presented a turd and it was rejected.

You polished it and resubmitted it and it's been rejected again.

I recommend sugar coating it before submitting it yet again.

If that fails. Maybe some glitter?
