Hi Guys!

First post here and i've got a few questions...

Does anyone here find local SEO difficult? If so, why? What makes this practice so complex?
(I am looking for those who have struggled with local SEO and why they found it difficult.)

Thanks & looking forward to responses!

Any SEO is easy for those who are in SEO business. Local SEO can be used for local purposes such as for hotels, accommodation, shops, etc.
Local SEO can be done local classified sites and local websites.

Thanks for you reply! However, I am looking for those who have struggled with local SEO and why they found it difficult. My fault, should've clarified a bit more!

Everyone says Local is easy to rank for..

I have plenty of citations, plenty of High PR back links, Silo structure On Page is great and so on but then I see other local sites outranking me with shitty metrics...

So although it is easy it seems like it is not.

Because local isn't about high PR backlinks... silo structure doesn't really matter as long as you're not a directory and as long as you don't have dynamic URLs.

You have to be relevant to the location and relevant to the keyword topic. Listing optimization + On page is usually good enough for 90% of the niches out there in local SEO. Remember, the algorithm that pulls the data into the packs is quite different.

Great post. I read the article and watched the video..

I see a lot of good points. In my niche though there are a few guys using PBN networks and it is really hard to beat them even with high PR links. I really am not sure if this method alone would outrank them. It is a pretty competitive niche..

I will definitely try and implement some of the strategies discussed and thanks for the info .

Still think I need more to beat these guys...

    I tell you something (:
I am doing local seo since 2005 without single backlinks from the place where my phrases appears in TOP5+ (because it`s too time consuming) so the backlinks from local websites are not necessary, but of course they will help if you have enough free time to look for them and post. But there are many more not less effective ways of rank locally, I don`t mean any BH techniques of course.

Local SEO can be difficult if you target USA for very competitive niche... and it can be easy if you target uncompetitive niche for Kyrgistan.

It can be hard if you target competitive niche in Kazakhstan, and it can be easy if you target low competition niche in USA.

If there's no money in the niche, or at least very small amount of $, than location doesn't matter too much.

I ran few days ago on some carrot juice for losing weight site... it had almost 0 SEO... but there was no $ in that niche, so why spending $ with 0 ROI.
(I think it was carrot juice, not sure though...)

So basically, niche is the key, not a place... Of course, you'll find more competition in places like Europe and America, but mostly because of higher standard of living for average person... and still that doesn't necessarily mean that competition is harder... I hope you understand my point because I can write IF...IF...IF till tomorrow.

    Hope it helped,
    Nicole (:

Local SEO can get difficult if you are trying to rank something which is not really local. If it is the real business which is local to that area , then yes go for it . Getting uniform citation is the key , then genuine reviews make it rock. Schema / Markups / Geotags are also key here.

Please be aware that you are competing for those 7 spots , so sometimes it get tuff. Make sure you/client have enough budget

It is difficult if you are doing an e commerce site for a country. You would have to focus on a particular country itself. And it is difficult because the niche is competitive.

I do not think that local SEO is so difficult it is international SEO that is really difficult because the competition is so much more.

I dont believe it is difficult, local seo is less competitve, so you can get quick results. Look for local search engines, local classifieds, business listing websites for your website link submissions.

Local SEO is not hard but you need to take care of certain things like schema tags for your local business etc. This will help search engine bots to understand your business & targeted city/state/country location in a better way.

With the word Local SEO, you mean off page SEO. The SEO which we usually do to publicize our post ?

Is that what you called local seo ?

I struggled with local SEO in the beginning but found it easier to obtain a ranking for a local keyword phrase than a national ranking. You are able to obtain a ranking very quickly once you know exactly what to do. One major benefit is not having to deal with Google sandbox.
