Pre-written content for SEO?

Hey everyone. I am pretty new to building websites and just IM in general. I have a few questions that I searched this forum for and cannot find answers to so I am hoping someone could help?

I am currently flat broke, but have hosting that I had previously purchased through hostgator. I have a full time job so I plan on having some money soon to buy an ISP, a domain name, wordpress theme, and Aweber.

I plan on starting up a blog with affiliate links, but since I cannot afford to spend any money at this time, I have been writing all of my content (which is 100% original) for the last few weeks in Microsoft notepad.

So once I am able to get my hands on a few bucks and am ready to launch my website.....

Will Google interpret my content as duplicate if I just copy and paste from notepad into wordpress? Or should I be writing my content in Microsoft Word instead? Does it make a difference? Or will I have to re-type everything in wordpress?

From what I am understanding about SEO (which is not a whole lot at all), it is a bad idea to upload everything to my site all at once, right?

So should I be uploading posts gradually? And if so, how frequent should I be uploading my content?

Realize that these might be stupid questions which may be the reason as to why I couldn't find any answers in the search results, but I feel pretty stupid when it comes to all this IM stuff, especially SEO. Hoping someone could help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Hey... to be honest, I laughed few times at some questions, but I apologize. I will give you all answers (and that will be a full apology...)

    1. Duplicate content to google is if you take it from someone's website and paste it to yours... with little or no changes. Don't worry about notepad, word or any other (after all, you will be copy/paste your content to your Wordpress)... as long as your content is not stolen/borrowed/taken from other source.

    2. When I advise someone about SEO on their fresh new website... I tell them to research keywords, optimize content for phrases, KW's and longtails (along with all other things), and I also tell them to have 3 articles prepared and put on their website... you can upload all at once... but that doesn't mean that you should write 30 days, wait with your website and launch all together. If you have 3 that's enough, if you have 5 that's again enough...
My advice is... have 3 for website, and few more as a "reserve" - you'll see in next answer why...

    3. you can post every day, 3 times a day, once a week, once a month... whatever you do, do it as scheduled... don't skip days too often... don't post today, then tomorrow, than after 3 days, then after 3 weeks... try to be as regular as you can be (google likes that) - and that's why you need your reserve... if something happens, you can still be as scheduled.
However, do not shake if you don't post 100% regularly... ex. it's ok if you skip one post or you make it day later or something like that... just don't forget your site for 2 weeks or something like that. Google likes fresh content, and will reward you for that!

This is as simple as I can explain for someone so "green" with SEO and basic IM.

    Hope it helps,
    Nicole (:

P.S. You don't need money for what you want except $10 monthly (even less)... You don't need to buy theme right now... there are some good themes available of WP for free. Domain can be as low as $2 with coupons... just google it.
You do not need ISP... and ok... you need an autoresponder (aweber or getresponse - another $15 - $20 monthly).

One tip... buy .com domains if you plan to learn more about SEO... don't go with some wild extensions that may look or sound fancy to you at first (:

    Hey Nicole

Apology accepted LOL. All this stuff is so freeking confusing to me. I am trying my best to put the pieces of the puzzle together and your response helped a ton. Thank you for taking the time to write your awesome reply!

I have a question though regarding what you said about the theme.....if I use a free theme to start off, won't I have a ton of problems trying to transfer my information to a paid theme if I choose to go that route later? That's what I was thinking and why I was thinking I should just choose a theme that I would want to use from the get go.

It's okay to copy from notepad (or Word or any other word processor) into Wordpress. This is not 'duplicate content'.

As explained by Nicole, it's only duplicate content if the content is published somewhere else online.

Will this damn duplicate content myth ever die?

Robin, ignore the posts above about duplicate content.

Duplicate content refers to the same content available two or more times ON YOUR OWN SITE from different page URL's

This is especially true if using Wordpress which stores the same content on different pages.
Straight HTML sites do not suffer from this problem.

Content placed on your site from other sites or authors (with their permission) is SYNDICATED content NOT DUPLICATE content.

Content placed on your site from other sites or authors without their permission is illegal, so never do this.

Now, from an SEO perspective (with a few exceptions like news) Google will only want to show one copy of a particular article in it's main results, and this will usually be the original, therefore if you have that same article on your site, you will never rank anywhere worthwhile for it, that is the only 'penalty' from having content on your site that is available elsewhere.

So use syndicated articles for the benefit of your visitors, to pad out your site and maybe some internal linking for you, and use your own original articles to rank and get traffic from the SERP's.
Just ensure you have a lot more original content on your site than that which is syndicated.

Hi hon, pasting from notepad to WordPress is not going to be a problem. It’s definitely legal. I actually do that and I’m pretty sure that everyone here do write their content offline first and then paste it to their sites. My advice is to use Microsoft Word instead of notepad as MS Word has spell check and other features which you can utilize.
