How to go about using content from other sites without getting penalized?

I will use the following as an example:

Let's say I have a website that was for Movies or Card Games. The movie descriptions and the game rules are very specific. I want to be able to copy the rules and the movie descriptions directly from the source site. I do not want to 'spin' them as 1.) it will not be quality and I think it would be wrong and 2.) I want my readers to know where I got the content from by linking out to the source.

How can I do this without getting penalized by Google for having 'duplicate' content if that is what it actually is.

Is this content syndication and if it is should I just link to the origin source.

Thanks in advance!

You could link to the original source but another way is to capture the content as an image and use that instead.

That way you don't have to be worried about duplicate content whatsoever.

Well, I'd recommend either taking the main idea (say, for the movie plot) and rewrite it in your own words and link to the source or, you can write just a paragraph or two (also in your own words, like an introduction or something) and link to the source for your readers to see the details.

You may use the content if it is relevant.
You should acknowledge the source by rel="nofollow" link to source.

    This is legitimate.
BTW, you get penalized for duplicate content mainly if there is duplication within your own site.
Copying for other sites will not attract penalty nor give SEO benefit.

You have no option, without writing the new content in own words or rewrite the content because if you capture the content as an image then there is no benefit for SEO. Google read content and that's why you post content.

Just rewrite the content on your own or outsource and pay someone on fiverr $5 to do it, that way your content will be unique.

There is different kinds of spinner software out there which could help you spin the content.. But to be honest, I'd recommend just rewriting in your own words. You can't beat having some unique content and even if you can get some decent ideas from what the original article says, it's best to put it in your own words.
