Ranking on search engines is actually easier than most people think, the reason why many marketers fail to rank their website is because they want to use shortcuts to get to the top of search engines. The first rule you need to obey when it comes to SEO is that you need to use white-hat methods. What is the point of using black-hat methods, ranking at the top for a few days/weeks and then having your website banned by Google? Below are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that your website ranks well before you even consider link building.

1. Make sure that your website is properly SEO optimized - Google won't guess which keywords you want to rank for, ensure that you have all the right keywords on your website and avoid keyword stuffing.

2. Post original quality content on your website - Content is definitely king, ensure that you post content regularly(at-least twice a week). The more content you post, the more keywords you will rank for. Google loves website which have new content regularly.

3. Monitor bad links to your website - Its important that you know each link which is linking to your website. Make sure that you get rid of all the bad links that are pointing to your website.Your websites success really depends on this.

    You forgot to add social signals. Being active in social platforms your audience frequent is a way of letting your website be found in turn it will boost your rankings because Google loves sites that lots of social signals.

    Google Ranking is not much easier as you specified. IF somebody follow your suggestion then they can rank long tail keyword or low competition keywords but if you required high competition keyword like "how to weight loss" "how to fat loss" etc. then you have to work really hard in high authority backlink generation.

    You have to plan your link building strategy with different web 2.0 sites, article submission, classified, PDF and document sharing website etc.

      Clearly you did not ready the thread properly, i stated that those are the steps which you need to take before you can consider link building. I'm talking about the basic steps here.
