Do NOT submit to link directories. They are horrible quality links and the exact type of links that Google targets with each new Penguin update.

Adding yourself to a bunch of low quality directories is just asking for an SEO slap.

I want to share my Experience Directory Submission is best way to gain quick visibility On Search Engine. 1st you start on High PR Directories Likes Dmoz or Yelp, HOT Frog this type of site Gain Back-links. If you want to find new directories use Moz tool open site explorer. Here you can find you competitors back links as well as directories.
Remember it Only submit there where you can submit free. Don't use paid method.

Hey lgedwards i can you one suggestion first do not posting directory submission bcz can't benefit for SERP you can do blog posting with unique content and blog commenting.

As netanel23 said, it's not a good idea unless you really do your homework. Many "directory" sites are shoddily built on reclaimed domains that have questionable link profiles. Their sub pages don't have much PR, and even if they do, dozens of links to external sites are going to dilute any link power very quickly. Not to even mention that they don't fit any particular topic or category...

The last two points are true for even the best directories out there. Even they're probably a waste of money and/or time. "New directories" are worse. Proceed with caution! You can easily waste time, money and energy, and wreck your visibility in the process.

Post only on High PR directory website such as DMOZ. Avoid posting on low PR directory website for the sake of backlinks.

With all these HUNDREDS and even THOUSANDS directories list you are asking for more??? I am almost sure there are more than 20,000 directories worldwide, if not A LOT more.. Why not do a search first?

I would use a tool like https://www.whitespark.ca/local-citation-finder that will find the competitors citations and mainly directories and just replicate a link where they have added them.

  Your friend is correct. Most directory links are not worth your trouble, and the worst can stay in your profile and haunt you for a long time.

now a days most niche directories are paid. but most high PR directories are free. and these paid directories also don't have any repute...

Try creating free account on brightlocal and hit the citations tracker... put your biz info in it and bingo... you will find huge list of niche and directories you need to compete in your SEO strategy.
