Any Explanation For This - SEO Related

2 days ago I bought a new keyword rich domain, set up a WP blog. Put up a few posts. Pinged the blog. Wrote a few articles, some haven't gone live yet. Also did a bunch of bookmarking. Then I pinged my bookmarks.

Important note, the keyword phrase I was targeting, the competition is VERY weak. About 9 million pages show up for the kw phrase, but again, the competition is very weak.

My site was indexed by Google yesterday, a day after I created the site. So that's good. But, the site is nowhere to be seen in the first 15 pages of Google. BUT, my propeller and digg are showing up. #2 and #8 on page 1 of Google.

My site is seo'd properly. Traffic Travis gave it an A+, if that means anything.

Any reason(s) why my site is nowhere to be found even though it is indexed and properly seo'd?

I do have hyphens in the domain name. Seems most people agree that that doesn't hurt. But maybe it does?? I only say this because if I type in my URL into Google and hit search, I actually get a "did you mean (my domain without hyphens)?" My page does show up in the search results, but it is #3 and #4 and they are my "About" and another page on my site. Not the main page.

I should also note that as of right now, no backlinks are showing. I should have a handful out there but for whatever reason the aren't showing up right now.


Any idea what is going on? Is this normal? I just don't get how propeller and digg are showing up way before the site itself.

      Hi
      It depends on the "keyword" you focus on your site or how strong the keyword competition. Keyword rich domain may sometimes help your site rank well (.com, .net, .org, .me) in the condition that your content is original and template is different (for Google). Try spend few months gradually build some do-follow one way links (high PR) to your site with Same keyword.

      If for Yahoo and MSN, you needs as many as possible backlinks + keyword domain name, will help you rank high.

        Well like I said, the competition is terrible. I mean a damn propeller profile is #2 within one day.

        I'm thinking once the backlinks show up, it will rank. Maybe it, like internetmarketer99 said, just a time thing.

    Give your site a few weeks and the other links you provided are from high PR sites, Google has them on its good books that is why they have already come up

    I have many of the same annoyances OP. It seems a lot of people just open a site, and without much promotion, they're on page 1. I too have chosen super low-competition niches but am in the same boat as you, and can't understand why. I've given it a bit of time, used Angela's backlinks, but nothing. I was using keywordinfo.com and keywordreviews.com, and now for newer sites, I've gone with keyword.com/org with super duper low competition. With a couple of sites, I'm going to try SBing. I was wary of this because I did this for another site extensively in the past, and was sandboxed for a long time, but bay37 on the $300/mo thread says he bookmarks to 25 sites right away, then just uses article marketing , and voila, he's at $20/day in 20 days.

    Wow that's surprising because I've been doing the exact opposite (bookmarking them as soon as I've uploaded them) for the last 5 sites I've made and all but 2 of them have ended up on the first page of Google.

      I can't really do the same again as no 2 sites will be the same, they'll have different names etc so it wouldn't really be a valid experiment.

      If bookmarking has worked 5 out of 7 times for me so far (knock on wood) why would I change?

      Just finishing off a site within the hour and I'll bookmark within the next 12 hours and hope that it shows up on the first page of Google again within the next couple of days, mind you I think I picked a bad keyword phrase this time as I didn't look at the competition before buying the domain (slaps forehead), never know though I might still sneak in there somewhere!

    The site with the dash was in position 35 for the keyword. I then deindexed all of the pages, and made my other site life, the one without the dash.

    That website was nr1 in Google.

    That explicitly told me that Google don't like dash domains (maybe because statistically mostly internet marketers (who mess with Google) buy dash domains.

    But again just my opinion, but according to my experiment I won't ever again use a domain with a - in it.
    Yeah, I'm curious about the hyphen thing. Seems most people think it does no harm. Starting to second guess that.

    You answered your own question.

    New domains tend to fluctuate at first. Google has incomplete data on how to rank them so this is normal. The algorithm has to fully process the content and links. It hasn't decided how trustworthy the domain is. It may get a temporary boost for being new content but this is usually quite brief.

    The social bookmarking sites are established and will be ahead of your new site for a while. Don't worry about this. If people are interested in your topic, they'll click through to your site.

    The bottom line, continue your off-site promotional efforts and internal content building and don't panic.

    Ok, so my site is now showing up once on page 2 and once on page 3. But, it is not my homepage, which is the page that is optimized for my keyword phrase.

    So why would internal pages rank higher than the index when the index is the best SEO'd page on the entire site?

    Is this normal?

    Its natural and it is good you are using natural SEO. Its takes time dont be hurry.. You need to process and try to improve the quantity and quality of organic search traffic, and Search Engine Marketing.
