Keyword research tool for 2015?

Hey guys,

did not do any serious keyword research since 2012 and I think many things changed, so hopefully there are some serious and good keyword research tools out there.

I need something that will help me with ideas for new KWs. I have a huge niche with about 4 main KWs, from each of it about 10 smaller KWs. I need to go deeper into long-tails.

Can anybody suggest anything good?

It would be fine to find the most relevant long-tail KWs to my terms, traffic volume, maybe some "competition" (even I do not trust online metrics).

Thanks a lot guys!

Jon

SEMrush is the way to go my friend.
Punch in a competitor URL and it will spew out all the keywords they are ranking for and other sites they share common URLs with and the loop keeps going until you got a 100s, 1000s and even 10,000s of keywords.

Long Tail Platinum Pro will give you plenty long tails to go after.

I'm not sure how accurate the seo/competition score is though.

The single best thing you can do for keyword research is to run an AdWords campaign with a lot of broad match terms.

Enough of these debates. No keyword tool can give you 100 percent keyword research options. You have to use different tools to test the efficiency and effectiveness of a keyword.

I have been doing keyword research since 2008 and I've come to see that no keyword tool is 100% percent reliable.

    If you want to conduct an effective keyword campaign, use the following tools;

    Google Keyword Planner
    SEM Rush
    Wordtracker Keyword Tool
    Market Samurai Keyword Tool
Rank Tracker - Keyword Research Module

A keyword tool might give a vague estimate of a keyword or keyphrase. But using those 5 keyword tools will definitely tell you if the keyword is a go-for or not.

I've also written a comprehensive article on my blog about those keyword tools: 5 Must-Use Free Keyword Research Tools For Every Internet Marketer

    Wishing you the best...

Market Samurai is easily the single most overrated keyword tool on the market. Total waste of time. Just a complete and total POS.

And you are wrong about no tool be 100% accurate. There is one very good one. Run an AdWords campaign with broad match terms. That will give you all the keyword data you could possibly need.

    Hi Jon,

I have found to be good replacements for Google keyword planner. Check out and see whether those fit for your expectation.
    1. Wordtracker
    2. SEO Book Keyword Tool
    3. Keyword Eye
    3. WordStream Keyword Tool

    Thanks.

It doesn't really matter what you use. The best way to do keyword research is to keep doing it, using any relevant tool you can find out there. I believe no tool is 100% perfect, so find the area where a particular tool is best and optimize it. I use Semrush for competitive analysis, keywordtool when doing YouTube search, Serpstat for to generate search suggestions in queries.

you have two options one is long tail pro and sem rush .... sem rush is i think monthly but long tail pro is a one time buy so if you have money to spend go with the sem rush otherwise vice versa .....

I recently discovered this keyword tool: https://kwfinder.com/

The best thing about this tool is it gives variations about our query + insights for PPC campaigns as well. I find it very useful and use it whenever I need to perform keyword research.

I have three of them but use them in this order. SEMRush is my goto just to see things at a high level. Then I'll run a campaign in Market Samurai. Market Samurai and LongTailPro are very buggy for me.

    SEMRush.com
    MarketSamurai
    LongTailPro

Running an adwords campaign also sounds like a great idea if you already figured out what you want to concentrate on.

SEMRush is great just to get an idea of whether or not it is even feasible to go after a keyword. I look at the keyword then the competition. I try to find a niche site already out there and see about how much traffic they are getting. I'll take a look at how much content they have and look up their backlinks too. That gives me an overall picture of what it would take to rank for that term.
